Good experience. But they completely lied about the pricing just to get my son enrolled. They way they trick people to sign up is morally wrong.
I have been going for only a few weeks, but I was very pleased with the introduction, ease of participating in a free trial class, explanation of costs and class times, etc. Very straightforward and fair. I didn't feel pressured or rushed. I can't compare to other martial arts studios, but this place seems to deliver exactly what was promised and I really enjoy the different instructors Mr. Valecillos is particularly great and they all seem to genuinely care about each of the students and making sure they are getting the most out of a class. I'm an older adult 50's, but there is a mix of adults and younger kids and the kids seem to also really be enjoying themselves while working hard. I feel like I'm learning a lot and getting in very good shape at the same time. It's a darn good workout, but not just a fitness place. As my younger kids get older, I could see getting them involved here also. They emphasize the respect angle very much and this is a family friendly environment that still is serious about teaching the martial arts. The facility is in good shape, clean and they invest in making sure they have equipment pads, bags, etc. that are in good condition.
The instructors are knowledgeable and committed to making our children better people. It is a business. So yes, they do push the sales pitches. That being said, it is a safe comfortable place for children to not only learn how to protect themselves, but also the values of respect, discipline, and self esteem to name just a few. They really seem to genuinely care about their students and stand with them through the successes and struggles.
Complete scam. I'm a senior and very trusting Thank goodness there are laws that protect us. It's nice to see old time gym membership and their shady sales techniques are still alive and well at Victory Martial Arts on Maquire Rd in Ocoee/Windereme. It's a group setting and most of the people don't get the training they are really paying TOP DOLLAR for. In the group class there is an instructor. The students in the group class are all different ages and degrees of "belts". If you are new, you get lost in the 35 minute class as you try to figure out what you are doing. Do your homework before you commit. Ask to WATCH A CLASS before you commit. PLEASE read everything even though they'll pretend its not necessary and smile at you like it's no big deal and get copies of things you sign even though its electronic and they won't offer you a copy. You can pay much less money and get way way way better training elsewhere. Simply do a google search and discover that there are many other great martial arts companies in the area. If your child happens to be in any ocps school in the area, their school offers a much better after school program with 1:1 teaching for much, much less money. DON'T BE SCAMMED
Do not waste your money at this TKD school. I mean every branch that this school has are all the same. They will make you sign a 1 year contract which is impossible to get out off, unless you are moving out of state. Your child will be training inside an overcrowded room that stinks of sweat and the smell of stinky feet. They have 1 instructor for every class of 30 to 40 adults and kids mixed together. I'm not even mentioning the way they nickel and dime you for everything your child needs to participate in activities. Your child is better off joining a real martial arts school that teaches real martial arts. This school will teach your kid how to scream loud with every punch and kick. That's about it!
Where do I begin? Well, I've been to martial arts schools prior to moving to Florida; And I have to say that This school was one of the worst that I've ever been to. When you sign up, they make you sign a three year contract that is damn near impossible to get out of. Why a martial arts school needs a contract was beyond my understanding at the time. But after awhile it became clear. They wouldn't be able to stay open without them. The school is nothing but a cash cow. They are constantly trying to make you buy something, or pay for some special class that isn't included in what I was already paying. I understand that they are a business, and that they need to make money. But they tend to go a little overboard with the sales pitches. I want to learn from an instructor. Not a salesman. They classes are very overcrowded. Students can't even practice a form without bumping into each other. And speaking of forms; That's all you're really going to learn here. You will learn a bunch of fancy kicks, and forms. You will look good doing this, and you will get into shape, but you won't learn any actual self defense here. Unless of course you want to dish out even more money for one of their special self defense classes that they have every once in awhile. This is the stuff that you should already be learning with the 100 bucks a month you are spending to go here. During sparring, I was constantly paired off with 10 year old approximately children who were quite literally half my size. I've never seen any school do that before. It just felt weird and very unfair. Unfair to myself and the kid. They constantly promote students to the next belt even though they can't even remember what they learned. Which is just a slap in the face to those of us that actually know the stuff. All they really seem to care about is the fact that they got the 50.00 promotion fee. The school couldn't care any less if the students actually know what they are doing. I managed to sit through all of the problems and make it to my Black belt. That was when the final straw happened. In this huge belt promotion test that is comprised of students from all of the schools; Only half of them actually earned it. The other half couldn't even remember their forms. And they still got a black belt. Then towards the end of the test, they had random people stand up and give praising testimonials of how great the school was, that really seemed to be staged. It felt like they were filming an infomercial. And then the next week. My first week as a black belt. I was training with the same material as the very low ranks. Really? NO advanced training? Just the same old thing? I left a couple months after that. I still had about 6 months left on my contract. I didn't care. The only good instructor they had, either quit or was fired nobody ever really told us what happened to him and I just couldn't deal with this business any more. And that's all they are. A business. They don't care if you learn anything as long as they get paid. I actually went back there recently and sat in on a class just to see if they had gotten any better since my final class a few years ago. I had a moment of temporary insanity, and I considered going back if they had. They hadn't. It's still the same old B.S. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the many other schools here that are actually good. And while investigating; Ask them what they think of Victory. It's more than likely that some of Victory's former students are at these schools now. I am. I'm currently attending a Karate school in the area, and after only a month an a half, I've learned more useful stuff than I did in my 3 years at Victory.
