Cost was $10, and allows re-entry if you leave for lunch. All was well except finding the path there if you come from the direction of Virginia museum of fine arts. But that was just me. A bit dark lighting but other than that it was a great experience. Plus the audios in the space section played over each other so you could barely hear either properly.
One of my favorite history museums! Love the wealth of information they present in such carefully crafted, aesthetically pleasing displays.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10

Great exhibits, beautiful space, friendly staff, historically balanced. We should have come years ago but look forward to returning.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10
Fantastic museum; well worth the admission. I was surprised to see a complaint about the $10 admission fee. That's low compared to other museums charging up to $30! And there's SO MUCH to see and read and watch in this place! I spent 4 hours in the main exhibit area and still didn't get to read and view everything. The main exhibit area is a beautiful chronological journey through Virginia's rich history. The area on the VA regions is incredible too. And the Apollo rooms and space exhibits were perfection. I really enjoyed my visit and can't wait to go back .
We’ve seen quite a few exhibits here including the recent vintage toys and the Downton Abbey exhibits. We’re members here and at the VMFA. Both are worthwhile memberships. The gift store has a lot of nice locally relevant books and maps of the area among other things. The static exhibits can easily take a few hours to get through. Lots of interactive things to keep kids entertained too.
Nice & well collected museum to visit. U can learn a lot about American history & culture. Easily spend a whole day here.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Just a terrific museum all-around. Both the long-term and temporary exhibitions were excellent, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Go see the Apollo exhibition if you can who doesn't want to sit in a lunar rover?, but most importantly, just go. Visited with our 12-year-old and all had a great time.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$6–10
An excellent museum to explore all aspects of Virginia's history, including the negative aspects of slavery a whipping post can be found. It's presented in a way that is informative and in touch with the many nuances/peculiarities of the civil war and the early encounter with native Americans. Don't overlook this place if visiting this area.
I live in Virginia Beach and have never been here. Came for a homeschool event with my niece who is nine. She really enjoyed this museum. It is a great place to learn about Virginia history.
