With the recent advances in technology, we accomplish more things faster than ever before. Virginia International University’s School of Public & International Affairs prepares students to deal with the ever-increasing interdependency of economies, as well as providing a strong basis for continued collaboration among the various actors within this community.
Virginia International University’s location just outside of Washington, DC provides students with unique opportunities for internships and job placement upon completion of their degree. Students enrolled in VIU’s MPA and MIR Programs are prepared to hold leadership positions in a variety of fields including, government, non-profit, public agencies, and the private sector. The School of Public & International Affairs at VIU stands up to the challenge of offering relevant degrees in the classroom and online , that equip the students with vital skills to support the fast paced global climate across various domains. We provide our students with an affordable and practical education, covering cutting-edge technological innovations to ensure our graduates’ success when they enter the workforce.
Our courses are taught by accomplished practicing professionals in the field, who work in state, local, and federal government agencies as well as the private sector within the DC Metropolitan area. Our class sizes are small, our student body diverse, and our expert instructors use a hands-on teaching approach and encourage the exchange of experiences and new ideas. Our programs are available both on campus in Fairfax, VA and online . All programs are constantly updated to reflect the latest developments in technology and instruction to provide an unparalleled learning experience.

Students enrolled in VIU’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Science in International Relations (MIR) programs receive strong grounding in the discipline and the professional skills to pursue successful careers in government, non-profit, public agencies, and the private sectors. SPIA courses are taught by accomplished academics and practicing professionals. Our location just outside of Washington, DC provides students with unique opportunities for internships and job placement upon completion of their degree; in addition to the hands on academic, professional and intellectual resources they will have access to throughout the course of their education.
All programs within the School of Public & International Affairs are offered both on campus and online, providing flexibility to students in terms of course scheduling. As an institution, we pride ourselves on the student-centered approach VIU takes to education including small class sizes, and an individualized admission process – allowing us to take the focus off of standardized testing and evaluate students on their real potential. The School of Public & International Affairs is proud to exhibit this same, student-centered approach.
