Von's Beads and Jewelry is part of Von's Shops which began over 40 years ago as Von's Book Shop. The Book shop added records, art prints, a spinner of art note cards and other products as the shop evolved. The single spinner of art note cards from was the beginning of Von's Cards and Gifts that now carries greeting cards from over 60 companies in order to offer the huge and diverse selection that brings card fans from around the state. The "Gifts" part of the title covers a diversity of unique items from around the world. (Handmade boxes from Egypt, Poland,...Pottery from Native American tribes, Stuffed Animals, Scarves, Purses, Candles, Frames, Magnets, Fun Novelties that even include bacon Bandages.
Von's always finds things that are interesting and different from what is available elsewhere. They remain the only local source for many of the items carried. Beads and Jewelry were just part of the selection that grew and made Von's a destination to seek out whatever in the area. Of course other stores carry jewelry, so Von's concentrated on sterling silver and semi-precious stone designs that weren't readily available and then grew the selection. Offering more at better prices was always the aim. Now there are over 10,000 rings. For the diversity in earrings Von's has sought out dozens of sources for the variety of designs and styles. There are over 7,000 pendants in everything from common stones like Turquois, lapis, amber, amd tourmaline to the unusual ones like seraphanite, vesuvianite, brecciated mookaite and dragon blood jasper.
Beads were just a tiny part of the store 20 years ago but have grown till they are now in 4 different rooms and Von's has the largest selection of stone beads in the US. Of course there are glass beads too from Austria, Bali, China, Czechoslovakia, India, Morocco, ...Metal beads vary from sterling silver to pewter and brass.
Von's shops is one of a kind department store that still offers the best book selection in both new and used departments. The record department continues to stock the newest CD's and still offers Vinyl. The comics department offers all the new titles plus back issues and over 2.000 graphic novels. Indiana's first Video department offers all of their thousands of DVD,s at only $1.00 rental. Von's Rocks and Crystals is still another department that fills a room with natural wonders from the earth.
