Beautiful park. There’s a dog park and they rent boats and canoes. Also a boat launch so you can paddle board or boat with your own equipment. We ride our beach cruisers on the bike trail just outside of the park. Nice pretty paved trail. The only downside was the traffic noise. It took away from the serenity of the place, hence the 4 star review. I’ll be back to try out the trails and maybe rent a canoe.
I have lived in this area for at least a decade, and yet, this is the first time that I have explored Waller Mill Park. It's one of the closes parks to where I live. I guess it's the idea of getting out of town that gets me going even though I love Williamsburg. Travel and explore. That's me. Anyway, enough about me. This park one of the very few parks in Virginia that has an admission fee which is an affordable $2.00 per vehicle. The automated admission is currently out of order, so you need to go to the boat house to pay. Not a hassle as it is located near the parking area. After paying, I was shown where to find the map of park by the pleasantly courteous attendant, though if I would have simply turned around, I would not have had to ask. After grabbing the single sheet map, I scanned over it to acclimate myself as to the location and lengths of the trails. It didn't contain any information on the difficulties of each trail so, I assumed they were all relatively easy trails. There are 3 trails and one bike path to choose from with the Lookout Tower Trail being the longest at 2.92 mi and the Shelter Trail being the shortest at 0.75 mi. I chose the Bayberry Nature Trail which has the option of hiking the entire 1.5 mi loop or choosing the shorter 0.92 version which cuts the loop virtually in half. I chose the long way. You begin the hike by crossing the well made pedestrian bridge which gives you a good view of the row boats and canoes available for rent, there are plenty and they all appear to be in excellent condition. As I navigated this trail, I encountered more tree roots here than any trail of any park in Virginia that I can remember. So, if you want to take in the beautiful scenery which this trail provides, I recommend that you either stop walking first before you take your eyes off the trail or wait until you find one if the many benches that are provided at strategic locations throughout. Having written all that let me also express that the roots didn't bother me at all. Personally, the more natural the trail, the better I like it but, that's just me. There are also many informative plaques along the trail which shows how to recognize various types of plants and trees native to our region. I'm happy to write that I now know how to recognize poison ivy at first glance. As I have decided to save the remaining two hiking trails for a later date, I will provide updates to this post after I complete each one. One more thing; The mens room located at the boat house is clean, air-conditioned/heated and, with the exception of the door, is completely hands free. I can only assume that the ladies room is as well.
We rented kayaks for 1 hour and then hiked. Parking and kayak rental was really cheaply priced and a great experience. Bathrooms at the boat house were very clean and trails were well maintained. The staff were all very kind.
Love this park! So many fun things to do here and it is so we'll taken care of. We went kayaking, had a little lunch at a picnic area, then took a short walk on one of the trails. Renting a kayak was super easy and the staff was very helpful. It's a beautiful area to kayak, lots of wildlife. The trail we took was easy to walk and had a few little areas you can stop and look out at the water. We had a fun time and plan to come back soon.
Had a blast walking the trails although they are hiking trails. They have A LOT of roots and inclines and declines. It's not the easiest walk and NOT stroller or wagon friendly. Playground was fun beware the benches have burrowing wasps in most of the wood so be careful! Restrooms were clean and large enough to fit the wagon.
I was in Williamsburg for a few days and came here every day around 630pm and stayed until closing at 8pm. I only went to the piers for fishing but plenty of people rent kayaks, canoes, john boats. Trolling motor, battery, fishing poles, bait etc also. Seems there are hiking trails as well. I didnt catch any big ones but still had a lot of fun fly fishing for Panfish - mostly caught Bluegills. I will definitely come back and rent a boat/motor next time.
A lovely place to walk, have a picnic, fish and do a little boating. Boat rentals on site.Picnic tables in numerous areas. Benches along trails. Play areas. Piers.
Awesome set of trails that have a good variety of difficulty, but nothing too much more than moderate. There’s also canoes/kayaks/paddle boats to rent. Our dog also found some REALLY great sticks Dog-friendliness: The dog park requires you to have vaccination records and be registered, but the trails are super dog friendly. Picnic area: Several covered picnic areas as well as random picnic tables scattered through along the trails.
Nice park, clean trails, you can bring your dog, nice views.
Great place for hiking. The Lookout Tower Trail only took me ~1h to complete, and I spotted some cool frogs along the trail. The view is amazing and worth going.
