Father went into HVMC ER 14 days post op from open heart surgery with chest pain/ arm numbness and tingling. 7 1/2 hours later and test have been ran and still hasn't seen a doctor. From what we was told only one doctor was there running the ER. The ER rooms if that's what you want to call a curtain and a recliner was disgusting. Food, trash, and old pharmacy bags in the waiting area. We will definitely be looking at other options after this experience. Glad my dog has a cleaner building when it goes to the vet and friendlier staff cause I wouldn't take a dog here after this
Night shift nurses working on the floors act as if you are a bother as opposed to the day shift nurses are kind and take time to sit and talk with you, ease your anxiety and explain what you will be going through that day. I guess that's the difference between getting a paycheck and day shift nurses make you feel comfortable and reassures you that you will be taken care of with comfort. Patty Wells
Admitted with acute abdominal pain Gallstones. Kept praying for any relief to pain. Nobody else in waiting room except sprained ankle patient and me. We arrived at the same time. Sprained ankle was called back 5 minutes later. I had to wait another 25 minutes white knuckling the armrest. They hooked me up to monitor, but that was replace with a broken unit 30 minutes later, so even vitals were not being monitored. I couldn't protest too much pain to talk. Doctor kept assuring me pain meds were on the way. They never came. I passed the stone 4 hours after arriving. Nobody ever talked, made eye contact, or even noticed my unit was not functioning, nothing. The whole time I was there. No 'service' at all. Only the doctor. Funny thing is you can see a news segment of him online explaining two things: 1 that a sprained ankle would never be prioritized over acute abdominal pain and 2 Patients are closely monitored after admission. It was the most painful and terrifying 4 hours of my life. I will never forgive them. I'm livid. I wouldn't send my dog there.
Updste: I'd like to know how Ballad's HVMC ER missed not once but twice the decline in my brothers kidney output twice! Last time he was in HVMC ER was Sept 18th via Ambulance after having a seizure or black out to which you had EMS put him in a wheelchair and parked him in the lobby where he remained unconscious for the next 5-6 hours! You did blood work, just like you did the month prior and it showed decreased kidney output from one visit to the next but you didn't mention it. You didn't treat it. You didn't try to find out why. You discharged him both times. How do I know you did the blood work and the kidney output decreased from one visit to HVMC to the next? He was with our mother visiting a patient at JCMC in the ICU when he had a seizure, black out again! He went down in the ICU and the nurses helped get him into a wheelchair and push him to the JCMC ER where he was promptly admitted and the ER doctor that saw him stated that his kidney output had decreased even more from the last two visits to HVMC! There's no excuse for trying to kill patients so you can get the State to close HVMC due to complaints before COTA in 2 years! By the way- that is public opinion. I hadn't heard it until I started talking about the lack of care at HVMC. What the State should do is levy heavy fines against you for failing to adequately care for your patients and break up the ridiculous Monopoly created by the merger! By the way, after admitting, JCMC doctors put a heart monitor on my brother- variations from too high to too low hmmm, sounds like last visit to HVMC and have done a CT, MRI and a host of other tests to find out what is going on with my brother. They also administered iv antibiotics for the sepsis you didn't treat the second to last time he was in your HVMC ER! You should be ashamed but I have no doubt you aren't. You're too busy worrying about your bottom line and the red ink to be concerned about patients. My brother came in via Ambulance after blacking out in our mom's car. They had the Ambulance drivers put him in a wheelchair and push him out front, park him and check him in as a walk in patient! He is in and out of consciousness and I'm afraid to take him to IPMC because of his condition in my truck. Check in nurse told us it would be several hours before he is seen because...THERE ARE NO EMPTY BEDS IN THE ER! Really?! I asked why they aren't diverting and was told Ballad doesn't do that anymore! I got a patient liaison- what a joke! The hospital time shows he was evaluated 14 minutes after he arrived. I called an ambulance, Indian Path, the main number and HMG since we've been here and the total time we've been here now is almost an hour! It was 30 minutes or more before they checked his vitals and did an egg after he arrived! Ballad would rather see your family members die in their waiting rooms than diverting to a center that has available beds! This is ridiculous! What the hell kinda dog and pony show are they running! I'll see if that state can't help them take more consideration for their patients than their damn bank account! Arrived at ER 1:50pm -email wheeled him to main lobby entrance, put him in a wheelchair and parked him in lobby after nurse instructed them to do so. -EMS checked him in approximately 10-15 minutes after arrival. - we were informed that there er was full and no beds available and it would be hours before he was seen
The emergency room only has chairs for sitting upright and does not accommodate people in pain. There is no way to lay down for relief. If you have abdominal pain, there is no way for the doctor to feel of anything or examine you, but the doctor will still write in his report they do. Dr. Metcalf did nothing but take up space. I think he is a little slow. He looked at my husband when he was talking and I don’t even think he realized I was the patient. He said my pain was not related to an ovarian cyst, he discharged me with no reason for pain telling me it was almost impossible to diagnose abdominal pain. Then he gave me discharge papers that said I had a cyst rupture. Again, I don’t even think he paid attention to what was going on enough to know who the patient was. He was terrible and the facility was terrible. The nurse staff, diagnostic staff and check in staff were great. The doctor was out of touch with reality.
Most of the night shift staff was awesome. Only reason they get 2 stars. Definitely do not recommend. Couldn't find out anything about care or plans from anyone in charge. Only time they offered when we were packing up. Never had these issues with Greeneville community hospital or jcmc
Once on the heart floor was treated very good and a procedure was performed with success and was home before I knew it being all better and recovering. Emergency room was Terrible which seemed lack of concern.
My granddaughter is 7 months old. She's was conjested my daughter took her to the ER because it wasn't going away for 3 days. She got to the hospital at 6pm. They took her back for an xray and swabbed her nose. They told her the results wld take an hour. This baby was fussing, crying she was miserable my daughter at 9:27pm ask her how much longer. The woman at the front desk replies with we don't kw you have 7 in front of you. You have hours ahead of you. What happened to this hospital? Yall use to care abt people. What if it was your child in that waiting room? This is sad it's gotten this ridiculous.
My friend has been in room 53P on the 5th floor today and the last couple days. The RN Kayla is useless! My friend was brought in last week very sick and still is very sick. Every time my friend needed something that was a emergency such as past due for pain medication or help going to bathroom this girl never came! I would have to go find her every single time. She would say she would be back to check on her and never come back! My friend had told me how badly she had been neglected by this nurse and today I witnessed it myself! I was there from 8am-5pm and only seen this nurse 2 times and it was after I chased her down. But thank you to all the other nurses who stepped in and helped with my friend when Kayla was “to busy” all day on the computer sitting at the nurses station! Seriously! This nurse Kayla is pathetic at her job! These pts are sick and can’t do much for themselves. And I don’t want to hear “oh they do the best they can, they are short staffed” that is bull! The other nurses was able to come in and help my friend! And it’s sad that they had to pick up this girls slack!
I had to go to the er. The doctor and nurses were excellent. They got me in and back and run tests to figure out what was wrong. They were nice and really cared. They listened. I am not sure why reviews are bad.
