We are a small facility with a big responsibility. Thanks to volunteer efforts from West Johnston High School’s DoSomething club, as well as, food and money from students, faculty and community members we provide
food to hundreds of people each month.
Community Food Pantry
We are a client-choice food pantry offering food assistance at no cost to any Cleveland or McGee’s area residents. Our vision is to be a model for student service learning, through the many volunteer hours and talents of West Johnston’s students. Our mission is to offer healthy, nutritious food at no cost to residents and create a community free of hunger.
Quantities vary week to week depending upon food availability at the NC Food Bank and community food drives. Every aspect of food pantry is operated solely by student volunteers of the DoSomething club and Food Pantry board members, and does not receive any government or school district funding.
Food Pantry Policy
One adult may shop for a spouse/domestic partner, as well as, children 18 years and younger living with them full time (unless child has special needs, in which case that will be determined on a case by case basis).
Additional adults in the household must sign up and shop for themselves.
Qualifications: Clients must have photo ID and show proof that they live in the Cleveland or McGee’s community which serves the following schools: Cleveland High School, West Johnston High School, McGee’s Middle, Cleveland Middle, Polenta Elementary, Dixon Road Elementary, West View Elementary, McGee’s Elementary, and Cleveland Elementary. Clients must have ID for spouse/domestic partner and report cards for school-aged children and/or birth certificates for non-school aged children.
No client may shop for another client.
The Food Pantry is a smoke-free environment. This includes the parking area surrounding the pantry.
While we are open weekly, we ask that clients come on an “as needed” basis and not take more than they can use while here. This will ensure the longevity of the pantry and allow us to help more people in need.
