Description

The West Piedmont Health District works with the people of Henry, Franklin and Patrick counties and the city of Martinsville to anticipate, prevent, mitigate, prepare for, and respond to behavior and events that could become or have become significant public health concerns.

Our local health department offices provide the following services to our community: immunizations, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, communicable disease control, family planning, health education, vital statistics, nursing home screenings, tuberculosis, breast and cervical cancer early screening & detection program, WIC, baby care, pregnancy testing, child safety seat program, newborn screening, children’s specialty services, rabies control, sewage and well inspections and permits, drinking water information, restaurant permits and inspections, and emergency and disaster planning. This office is definitely in need of major help! The lady Sheila, who runs wic, hung up on me because she wanted me to lie about my birthday being 3 year younger. She made a mistake in the system and when I wanted to confirm I need to lie about my age from now on instead of them adjusting my birthday. She got an attitude and said it wasn't a lie I just need to say my birthday is 3 years younger.........WHICH is a lie. Not sure why that was impossible for her to admit. Which by the way I called Richmond offices. Not only did they explain how unprofessional that was of her but that it's a simple change in the system and they weren't sure why she was being stubborn and hateful. She canceled my daughter's wic card because I didn't want to lie to the government about my birthday. I've had good experiences before this. Understaffed is no excuse to be rude and cancel a much needed benefit. My daughter hasn't had wic in a year because they hang up whenever they get a power trip in their head. I guess I was just supposed to lie but idk I feel like they need a change of who runs the place. Sheila definitely is out of touch and not willing to fix simple mistakes she made but take your mistakes put on a toddler is pathetic. Wic needs help they are better than this!
Just wanted to ask why the walk-in flu clinic held today, Nov. 7, 2022 was so unorganized, slow and looked like no one knew what they were supposed to do? It looked like a lot of staff at the front desk! We were the 3rd to arrive and people that came in after us were called ahead of us. The drive through clinics were better organized! Took us an hour to get our injection from the time we walked in and again, we were the third people there.
I and my husband had been to the health department to get our Covid 19 Vaccination record card corrected. Angie was the one who helped us right-away and infact she went a step ahead and also printed us a our record. We were very impressed the service we were provided. She took care of everything and also took our number and followed up the next morning. Thank you Angie.
As far as the wic office....one terrible little star. Always a long wait and very lazy people working there. With exception of one person. Too inconvenient because you have to come up there every three months and do this over and over for each child and they hardly ever answer the phone. I also want to mention how there is no changing table in the bathroom even though it is a place where you bring children.
We were in and out for the TB test/reading. No repeated call for an appt or voicemail.

Don’t call they will give you a number to call then the number will ask you a bunch of questions and then tell you there to busy to help now …. But of course let’s blame it on Covid
They are very slow.. Had an appointment at 9:00 am and didn't get out until 11:45 am..
The same as any other government building go in to get help with one thing and have to go through 20 hoops just to find out they won't help you
Never been inside but have taken others there and they all were satisfied completely.
