INSTRUCTOR PROFILES
Dean Petersen
Dean Petersen started Krav Maga in 2001 after separating from active duty Army service and became an instructor earning his A, B and C level certification through the Krav Maga World Wide organization in Los Angeles. He has since continued to earn additional instructor certifications with the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF), which is the original source of Krav Maga throughout the world. Along with several years of teaching Krav Maga classes, he has also trained Law Enforcement, Special Operations Military units and battered women.
Kevin DeRemer
Kevin DeRemer started training in Krav Maga in 2005 and earned his initial instructor certification in 2008. His drive to continue advancing in Krav Maga led him to train with the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) family and earn his Civilian Instructor Certification in 2011. To bring the best IKMF Krav Maga instruction to students, Kevin trains with the IKMF Global Instructor Team members from Israel several times a year. He holds credentials from IKMF as a Law Enforcement Instructor and Technical Shooting Instructor as well. With over twenty-two years of service in the U.S. Army, Kevin retired with extensive experience in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) including counter-improvised explosive device operations, combating weapons of mass destruction, production of weapons technical intelligence, post blast investigation, and the employment of specialized EOD and CBRN units.
Formerly a certified EMT, Kevin actively maintains CPR, Basic Life Support, and First Aid certifications.
Rusty Smith
Rusty Smith began training in Krav Maga in 2012 and through extensive training with both the local team as well as the IKMF global team, accelerated his journey to becoming a certified Civilian Instructor in 2013. Since that time, Rusty has dedicated himself to advancing his knowledge of Krav Maga by attending several seminars throughout the US conducted my IKMF’s global team including; Theater Anti-Terrorism, Street Fighting, Bar Fighting, and Family Protection. Rusty is one of only a handful of instructors in the United States to train in Israel at IKMF’s headquarters to be certified as a VIP Executive Protection Instructor. A diligent athlete all his life, Rusty has an extensive background in wrestling at the collegiate level as well as studied Aikido. Rusty also has in-depth coaching experience in wrestling, volleyball and football. As an instructor, Rusty has a strong commitment and focus on technique and excellence.
