WIU's Army ROTC, founded in 1968, produces leaders. If you are a strong student, physically fit, and have leadership potential, you are the sort of student we are looking for.
The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) was established when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Defense Act of 1916. Since its inception, Army ROTC has provided leadership and military training at schools and universities across the country and has commissioned more than a half million Officers. It is the largest commissioning source in the American military.
Army ROTC is one
of the most demanding and successful leadership programs in the country. For years, Army ROTC has been creating leaders who go on to rewarding careers in the military and civilian worlds.
Army ROTC produces approximately 60 percent of the Second Lieutenants who join the active Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. More than 40 percent of current Active Duty Army General Officers were commissioned through ROTC.

The US Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is an Officer Education Program that prepares you during college to enter the Army, Army Reserve, or National Guard as a commissioned Officer leader when you graduate. This puts you in the top 15% of the rank structure of our Army, and on a path to incredible experiences with skills that are in high demand in the corporate world.
Our program is distinctly different from enlisting in the Army, and you are not at risk of being deployed before your education is complete. In fact, students can take the first two years of ROTC classes without any obligation to serve in the military upon graduation. For those who are qualified and who decide to pursue ROTC, we cannot do justice to all the benefits that are available to our graduates who commission as Second Lieutenants in the US Army.
Army ROTC provides Cadets with the character-building aspects of a diverse, self-disciplined civilian education with tough, centralized leadership development training.
