For the 13th consecutive year, The Princeton Review has named Western Illinois University a "Best Midwestern College." Western is also ranked among the top tier of best regional universities in U.S. News and World Report's Annual College Rankings 2015 edition.
For the 5th consecutive year, Western has been recognized as a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs Magazine, and for the 4th consecutive year, Western has been selected as a "Best for Vets College" by Military Times EDGE magazine. Western, ranked 37th, is one of two Illinois four-year universities in the top 50.

Our Past and Our Present
Established in 1899, Western Illinois Normal and Training School opened its doors Sept. 23, 1902 to 229 students. Throughout the years, Western Illinois grew and its name changed from Western Illinois State College to Western Illinois University on July 5, 1957.
Today, Western Illinois University offers a variety of bachelor's and master's degree programs, pre-professional programs, a doctorate degree in education, and certificate programs to nearly 10,000 students.
