Welcome to the School of Social Work at WMU. We are a school committed to social and economic justice in our curriculum, scholarship and service.
After more than 40 years, we are still vibrant and strong. We invite you to review our page and our website to learn about educational opportunities in one of the premier schools of social work in the nation. Our B.S.W. and M.S.W. programs prepare students for professional practice with adults, children, families, organizations and communities, as well as for practice in child welfare, health care and mental health, among other settings.
In addition to holding continuous national accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education, and to being the home of the "Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare," we are fortunate to have faculty members with many years of teaching, research and service in the School of Social Work. Our faculty members are known for their strength in integrating professional practice experience and scholarship into the classroom experiences of students.
These characteristics have contributed to our success in educating thousands of students for careers in human services throughout the state of Michigan and beyond. Our graduates leave the school prepared to be "change agents" who are able to make a difference in a world of human challenges. Consequently, the School of Social Work at Western Michigan University is a preferred choice by men and women seeking a quality social work education.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or if you need additional information about our programs. We would like to be your school of choice for social work education. We are committed to what we do—educate change agents—and we invite you to join us.
Western Michigan University's School of Social Work educates social workers to advocate for social and economic justice and personal well-being for all people. The faculty provides leadership on a local, national and international level through research, scholarship, community service and partnerships, and other creative activities relevant to the profession.
