Beautiful campground. It is very quiet and peaceful. There's a wonderful breeze coming off of the ocean that keeps everything nice and cool even in the summer. Restrooms: The restrooms are primitive composting toilets with no sinks. Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly as long as you have 6 foot or shorter leash and cleanup after your pet.
Stayed at wild mare horse camp august 11-15. It is not a camp that I will be returning to for multiple reasons. First, there are not a lot of trails to ride on. And what is available is all DEEP sand that the horses have to walk thru that can cause injury. We even spoke to the rangers and asked for help with maps and trails. They even told us there was not many trails, but there was a section that had SOME trails. However, it was 4 miles one way in deep sand to even get to the small section of loops and then you had to come back the same way thru the deep sand. Second, non horse campers are allowed to stay at the horse camps which makes no sense to me. Third, there is a resident tweeker who rotates spots in his RV with his dogs and his cats. He harasses campers, called the sheriff because his dogs are aggressive and you were standing by his campsite in the road. Fourth, people drive in and out of the camp all day. Including those who are not camping there. I am assuming they are looking for an open spot to stay in? Not sure. Fifth, the mosquitoes were HORRIBLE! got out of the truck and instantly got swarmed by mosquitoes. Us, the dogs, and the horses were covered in bites by the time we left. Drove 10 hours to get there and was very disappointed. Don’t waste your time here.
Nice campground. Pretty well maintained. The only real negative was the mosquitoes. They are thick in the morning and evening. And even worse along the trail to the beach. This is a campground for people with horses. You should not be camping there if you don't have horses with you. Restrooms: Vault toilets Dog-friendliness: Leash required
Love this place ususlly...unfortunately the mosquitoes were so bad this year I came home a day early in gorgeous weather. I could not find anything to keep them off of me or the horses...I think next trip I will wait for winter Restrooms: Vault toilets...kept clean Dog-friendliness: Dogs on leashes only but really it's not a dog park especially for dogs not used to horses
Great campground and trails. Only downside mosquitos. Early July they were baaadd
This is one of our favorite horse camps. Our family has been coming for 10 years now. Unfortunately this year we had the worst experience with the 2 lady volunteers Brenda and Annie they drive a big dodge with Montana plates. Our first night there they were so rude came at us first thing being hostile because we parked in the wrong spot. Due to no over flow parking. The second day they were back driving about 20mph my kids were walking and had to jump to the side another camper yelled for them to slow down. The third day they came back starting and being rude so I asked their names so I could report them the got so rude we had call the cops on them. This was the only issue we have everything had here sad that some people hate their job why even volunteer if you hate the campers. Unfortunately we were not the only ones complaining about the ranger had multiple complaints
My favorite place...I really like the new camp hosts
Standard Horse camp on the Oregon beach. No hookups. Water for horses.
