Great park! Great trails! You can ride for hours upon hours, but there are also trails that you can use to do a short loop if you don't want to keep going. It's ALWAYS beautiful and peaceful. Great for horses. The only thing that can be expected in this environment is rattle snake. Be very careful.
Medium-Easy hike, haven't tried the "Hi-Up" trail yet. Be careful though as some trails go outside of the property and signs are posted. Saw one deer on my second trip. Restrooms: Did not use Dog-friendliness: As long as the dog is on a leash your furry companion can come along, I brought my dog both times Picnic area: Trash can and picnic table, basic and effective
This is the kind of place to go if you want to escape the crowds. I really liked this place for that reason. I only seen one other person on the trail at midday! There are two trails to take in order to get into the park. The first one is by the parking lot and the other one is up the road. You can take either one because its a loop trail. If you do take the one by the parking lot the trail is narrow and there's not much to see at first until you've gone maybe two miles, if that. After that it opens up. I seen a lone coyote, squirrels, acorn woodpeckers, and other birds. Be safe and have fun!
More of a 3.5 star park. I enjoy hiking here. It's more of a locals hike and bike State Park. If your not already in the are I wouldn't go out of my way to visit especially with places like San Jacinto SP and Big Bear rec area near by. The park is situated on a hill side right outside of town. Pretty much All the hiking and biking is either going up or coming down. About 25% dirt road, 25% double track, 50% single track. All dirt pack and nothing very technical. Great Mountain Biking if your a good climber and want to log some training miles. You wouldn't know your just a stones throw from Yucaipa and several developments with as quiet as it is. The parking lot is huge and wide open, setup very nicely for the equestrian folks with trailers. Very little in the way of facilities here, or even trail markings for that matter. Make sure to have a map with you or download either All trails or Hiking Project - both of which are free and will keep you from getting lost. There's ok cell coverage with AT&T. A few dead zones but otherwise 2 bars. Bring lots of water. It's a pretty exposed and windy hillside. You'll dehydrate quickly. Most times I go there are only one or two other cars in the lot and Ive never come across a fellow hiker, biker, or equestrian outside of the .10 mile from the lot.
Today was gloomy and cloudy. I got feel cold winds hit my face that made me feel like something new. The trail seemed empty but then I ran into 3 people on my path. Then another person on their horse going into the trail. I did see a bicyclists. I saw nice blue jay birds flying. The dirt was muddy and lots of greenery plus the views were nice. I will definitely come back with some of my friends to go in deeper into the trails.
I like going to different local hiking locations. This one was is in my top 5 so far. Read all the precautions before hiking these trails. You can come across a mountain lion. Possibly some dear too. I didn't come across neither but when you get to the top and see you see there could be a chance.
Nice sites, showers and stalls. Hosts were very attentive.
Love the history and trails here. Good for horses, hikers, even strollers good and mountain bikers. Please don't go if you like tagging your hiking places. Old Hunts Ranch had hogs there. Really cool abandoned buildings. Be careful to watch where you step. wild fire road to it. Hot in summer not much shade until you near houses on ranch.
If you are a Mountain Biker or Horseback rider you might want to hike these trails before you ride em, just to get a feel of the area. These trails are perfect for those who can't get enough of nature and beautiful foothill views. There is a clean, quiet picnic area and restrooms near bottom of trails. Bring your own water the fun is waiting.
Moderate loop that phases from rough cut wooded parh to open foothills brush land to finish with green forested covered soft light, round trip about 2.5 miles. Some horse droppings early on, nothing unreasonable. Last 1/2 mile is great for stretching and light yoga stops. Highly recommended.
