After turning 72 in mid 2019, I felt it time to plan for a final family resting place. We were seeking a small to medium size nondenominational cemetery in the Fairfield County area that was professionally managed, had a rural feeling, was well cared for and financially sound. My spouse wanted a casket burial but not in the ground. I wanted cremation but not a ground interment. We also did not want to spend eternity in a large community mausoleum or columbarium type structure. A small family mausoleum combining a casket crypt with cremation niches seemed to best fit our requirements. Having lived in Westport for many years and enjoying the changing seasonal beauty of Willowbrook Cemetery, willowbrookcemetery.com we approached Danny Amoruccio, Willowbrook’s cemetery manager who is also a licensed funeral director. Danny listened carefully to our desires and explained the various burial options offered by Willowbrook, including private family mausoleum plots. We purchased a twelve grave “estate” plot on a hill overlooking much of the historic cemetery on which to build our family mausoleum / columbarium. Building a private structure also allows us to place the cremated remains of our family pets within the niche area which many cemeteries do not allow. Danny then introduced us to Ned Steinmetz of Brown’s Monument Works in Monroe, CT http://Brown’ssmonumentworks.com. We had general ideas as to the design of the structure we wanted and Ned worked with us on several designs, one of which would be fabricated by Rock of Ages in Vermont. Ned’s firm takes responsibility for the entire project from design, to fabrication oversight and placement in the cemetery. The resulting structure is beautifully crafted and set on the plot which also has room for six additional ground burials. Both gentlemen have been wonderful to work with which is important given that we now live 400 miles away from Westport. Whether you are considering a ground burial with headstone or other marker, purchasing spaces in a community mausoleum or a private mausoleum burial options, I highly recommend that you consider Willowbrook Cemetery and Brown’s Monument Works. We are a private family in Westport that was looking for a secluded plot for our family. We met with Daniel and he was terrific in helping us find the perfect space. We did shop around and find other cemeteries less expensive but the grounds here were kept nicer - so you get what you pay for. Willowbrook is properly run and funded and that’s what drove our decision. Thank you Daniel for your time and help.
My family and I were looking for Jewish burial grounds and simply weren't satisfied with local synagogue/temple run cemeteries. We heard that Willowbrook, a not-for-profit and non-denominational cemetery in the center of town offered three beautiful sections for my faith. On behalf of our late mother, I'd like to thank Danny for his professionalism, honest pricing and the management of the beautiful grounds at this historic park. It's my hope fellow Jews would consider this location for their funeral needs. Respectfully submitted, Abraham Rosenthal.
I couldn't agree more, with the other reviews posted. What I love about Willowbrook is the fact that The Who's Who of Westport is buried in this historic cemetery, woven amongst all religious beliefs. It's amazing to see more Catholics being buried at Willowbrook and the draw of the Jewish community, due to its gorgeous Jewish sections. Everyone should consider Willowbrook and support this nonprofit, for their mission is perfectly stated. Thanks to the Board of Trustees who make this possible - Westport is lucky to have a great group of guy and gals running it!
We lost our mother in-law in December and hadn't a clue as to the process of choosing a cemetary plot. As a devout Catholic, we wanted to honor the wishes of Joannie but was unimpressed with the grounds of the Catholic Cemetary. The only allow flat markers, it looks like swamp land and most of all, it faces Interstate I-95. After meeting with Willowbrook's manager, we found that their cemetary serves more Catholic families than the actual Catholic cemetary, and for good reason. Willowbrook is quintessential New England, with rolling hills and specimen trees and offers a quaintness no others offers. They are slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for. I highly recommend Willowbrook Cemetary, which I found out was a nonprofit cemetary where YOU, the plot owner, owns the cemetary. Most of all, you don't have to pay annual perpetual care fees, like the others! Thank you Danny for all your help. - The Merto's
Who wants to hang out at a cemetery? I do! This place is spectacularly beautiful. Spring fruit trees and daffodils in bloom are better than any botanical garden. The place is meticulously cared for and a weirdly peaceful spot to reflect and "chat" with Mom and Dad. It's not a huge commercial place so has a comfortable feel and the management are great people to work with. They help make the saddest moments in your life bearable.
My wife and I go to the gravesites of my Mother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law who are both buried at Willowbrook Cemetary. The grounds are always impeccably kept and serenely park-like, this gives us comfort, knowing that our family is so well looked after.
My great grandparents are buried here, my grandparents, my father. Safe to say I’ve been coming here for a very long time. This has always been a nice cemetery, but in recent years it’s really gone above and beyond anything you could imagine. Water Spicket’s, beautiful fences, beautiful plantings, and the property is so well-maintained. I’m so grateful!
My parents are both interred at the beautiful, peaceful and serene park like surroundings at Willowbrook. I like it so much I purchased plots for my wife and me. This is truly a quintessential New England Cementery.
Very beautiful Cemetery in Westport. Very well kept and the staff is extremely helpful and attentive.
