A lovely little museum overlooking where HMS Albany, North and Nautilus moored under the guns of Fort George in 1779. An eclectic mix on display but as always a delightful local guide to chat and pass the time with. The Perkins house next door has an interesting selection of carpentry tools if that is your thing. Well worth popping into.
This was a very nice place but on a 90 degree day, some buildings not comfortable. The little bench by the water between the house and museum was sublime with a gorgeous cool breeze
What an amazing find! I'll be returning to Castine just to see the incredible museum! Everything was laid out well and the buildings themselves were beautiful to see so well preserved. I spent close to three hours here just reading everything!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
It was a great experience. There are several buildings with displays. They have live exhibits on Wednesday and Sundays in the afternoon. The views are spectacular behind rhe main building. You can pay to have a tour of their house. There are lots of artifacts on display from the Wilson family. There is also some information on the town's history.
We just happened upon this museum. And what a find it was! The main museum houses an interesting and eclectic collection of various artifacts throughout time. From arrow heads, to ateam-powered machinery; from early natives, to Soutwestern tribes, to African and South American tribes. Well worth the stop.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Great museum in historical Castine, ME. So many nice displays inside and across the street. Nice young man working there!
A very interesting little museum! In the summer they often have a number of different events going on at any given point during the week, from reenactments to baking, wood-turning, blacksmithing, and more. The docents are friendly and welcoming, and are more than happy to answer questions about any of the exhibits. Definitely worth the a visit.

The Wilson Museum was developed and operated for years by my aunt, Elenore Wilson Doudiet, the daughter of John Howard Wilson, and her good friends the Hutchins family. It's wonderful and must be seen. I spent many hours there in my childhood. Elenore lived next door and on her island, Nautilus Island, in Castine Harbor.
A surprise museum as we meandered through the country. Nice selection, kind docent. Welcoming and fun place to visit. I only wish we would have had more time.
