A beautiful walking trail, so peaceful and clean. The sanctuary area for the birds is great. We loved getting to see them so close, my daughter was amazed.. loved our trip here today.
The Stanwood wildlife sanctuary is truly a beautifully preserved piece of natural beauty right in the heart of Ellsworth Maine. I highly recommend bringing your kids here for a leisurely stroll on the trails or enjoying your lunch break in the picnic area.
Entry by donations. Well maintained grounds. Lots of clear signage. The birds are well looked after. Each enclosure has a storyboard, explaining who is inside and how they came to be here. There are more extensive trails for walking, and picnic tables are available for use. Tip: At the duck pond, if you bring it, you may toss some lettuce over the fence. There is a gift shop, but bring cash.
Really fun neat place to go however don't try to bring a camper in here it's very tight parking
I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and it’s always been one of my favorite places to go. It’s always been an educational experience, and the trails have provided many years of escape from the chaos of the city and waves of tourist. It’s not always the happiest experience, since this is a place that takes care of birds that have suffered trauma and often rehabilitation and release aren’t an option. This is a place where they can survive, and live the best life they can.
Great trails for easy walks/hikes
Lots of lovely trails in a forested area. The paths are well marked and the whole place is beautiful. There are interesting objects to look at and play on egg rock, Queen's throne. There's a washroom and a gift shop. Entrance is donation based.
My absolute favorite spot in town by far. My family grew up helping birdsacher when I was young and it's a blessing to be able to come back and walk the land. Amazing trials many animals to see. Thank you so much.
What a great place to visit and walk around. The birds that have been rescued are all beautiful and well taken care off and the walks are so gorgeous. Highly recommend visiting and supporting this sanctuary
I took my kids yesterday. I use to go on the trails a lot as a kids but haven't been in years. We got completely lost and it 2 hours and 30 minutes to get back. The trails need to be fixed. One path wasn't passable. We found a broken bridge. We called them to ask for help but the person who answered wasn't sure because she hasn't done the trails but she did send someone to look for us. We made it back before them. We did see different kinds of mushrooms that the kids liked looking for. And we looked at some of the birds.
