Dr. Wind is awesome! In addition to having great surgical hands, his clinical knowledge and expertise is impressive. He did my total left hip 6 years ago and it was the best decision I could have made. The procedure was a success and my recovery time was faster than usual. I literally haven't had any pain nor discomfort since my surgery; this is why I'm seeing him now to do my total right hip. My background is over 20 years of O.R. Medical Sales. In my 3 state territory I've been in literally hundreds of operating room procedures with various surgeons of multiple disciplines, both in private and academic hospitals. Dr. Michael Wind ranks with the best...and is "head & shoulders" among most. In addition to being an outstanding orthopedic surgeon...he has great bedside manners, polished people skills and is a good person.
Had my hip replaced in February of this year. I had been struggling with it for close to 10 years, and was hoping to make it to 60, but fell a few years short. On the few trips to Dr Wind's office, they always seemed to be on time and didn't leave you hanging. Xrays were done quickly, reviews proceeded after that. Surgery day was as expected. Showed up a little early anxious of course, and everything went as planned. The only improvement IMO would be to have all the training on how to go up and down stairs placed on Youtube, because I was loopy after the surgery, and had to rely on my wife to relay what she remembered and therein is the problem, memory is only but so good for anyone. So, would have been nice to go home and the day later, review all the videos and all the How Tos reading information is so 1990s. Anyhow, attached is a picture of a "small" hike I just completed in Colorado. It was so nice to be able to take something like this on, without all the worry and pain. My 2 cents....if you are apprehensive about getting the surgery done..don't be. My hip feels soooooooo much better, as a matter of fact my hip doesn't feel meaning, zero pain, even after going up....and down a 3,500 foot climb. Now, my other hip, the one I used to call the "good one", the pain of my bad hip was masking it....I'm going to need it within a few years, but I can tell you one thing, I'm not going to wait as long as I did for the first one.
I had total hip replacement out patient surgery. Michael did a great job. Truly impressed with the whole experience. Would recommend him to all , and have already . Sent my former college teammate to him and Michael did both his hips and his knee ! Am walking 2 miles a day after 1 month .
UPDATE: Three years later, Dr. Wind has performed a left knee replacement and the results have been just as excellent as when he did my hip replacement three years ago. He is a wonderful surgeon and doctor; so easy to talk to and such a good listener. I didn't realize how much my orthopedic issues were affecting my life until Dr. Wind and his staff started fixing them. I feel as if I'm getting my youth back as my activity level has soared lately. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Wind. 2020:I’m so happy that my primary care doctor recommended Dr. Wind to me. The entire experience surrounding my visit was excellent. The staff is friendly and professional and made me feel like they were genuinely interested in helping me with my orthopedic issue. Dr. Wind is friendly and approachable. He and his staff treated me with respect and thoroughly communicated what was going on as well as next steps. I highly recommend this Dr. and this practice.
Today was my first visit with Dr. Wind I was was so pleased .. I've needed a Total knee replacement for two years and my quality of life was terrible due to the pain in the knee. He looked at my X-rays and showed me that my left knee was bone on bone.He discussed the procedure with me and he was so kind and very professional. I told him I was ready and he told me this time of year he was extremely busy and I'd have to wait until the first of 2023. I was devastated, he left the room and said the nurse would be in and schedule the surgery. Within minutes the nurse came in and said he could do it on November 21st. I was elated. I've also read great reviews on his knee surgeries. I feel very blessed to have him as my Surgeon.
All the staff I came in contact with were very friendly, professional, and competent, Dr. Wind took time to answer my questions even though the waiting room was quite busy. Being new to Richmond, it has taken 2 years to find new doctors and get caught up on all my various med checkups. I'm glad I chose Dr Wind for my orthopedic needs.
My first impressions are great. Did not feel rushed. Dr.Wind took his time reviewing everything and answering all my questions. We laid out an action plan without surgery. Fantastic.
I love Dr.Wind because he is so professional & really knowledgeable. My surgery went great & the recovery was better than expected. I felt completely comfortable with him & appreciate his great bedside manner. He's the only doctor I plan to see for any future issues.
I had a checkup for my left knee which went very well. Everything was in place, strong and no pain. Because I have had problems with my right knee replacement not feeling very stable, Dr. Wind also had that one x-rayed. After checking the x-rays, upon his suggestions I am going to wear a knee brace and have 6-8 weeks of PT. I agreed with him and want to avoid surgery to repair the plastic that is covering the replacements. He said the movement of the tibia replacement was due to soft tissue stretching . The brace has helped and gives me stability in that knee . I think Dr. Wind is an excellent surgeon.
Referred to Dr. Wind by one of his colleagues for an iliopsoas release surgery following complications after a total hip replacement. Dr. Wind and his staff are compassionate and take the time to answer all your questions. He explained the outcomes and risks of the surgery. Dr. wind performed my iliopsoas release surgery and follow up care. I had him perform my right total hip replacement and was very happy with the results. Don't just settle for anyone who does hip replacements, just like any profession not everyone is equal. Well worth the drive to see him!
