I grew up in Santiago, Chile, a big busy city that I love. Summers, however, were spent in the south of Chile, with my grandparents, in a small house with a giant garden and my grandpa’s wood shop. I remember spending countless hours just watching my grandpa methodically use every single hand tool he owned, talking about the grain of different woods and, once in a while, teaching this curious 4 year old, how to use one of those beautiful tools that we now can only find in antique shops!
Today, fourtysome years later, after a few detours of pursing other professions and interests, taking a few woodworking classes and learning how to use power tools, i feel i have gone almost full circle to those early years of woodworking as a meditation and observation. Most of my pieces are created with local woods that i have rescued from different places in one way of another. I try to work with each piece as it comes to me, trying to respect and save as much of the form it already has, and by bring out the beauty that is already there. ALTARS are one of the forms i love to make the most: with each Altar, i hope it finds a HOME that gives PAUSE, INTENTION, INTUITION AND RITUAL in our daily busy lives. Every piece is unique, just like the person that will connect with it and take it home to create that personal sacred space that helps us ground into our true selves.
