Young At Art Museum

About

Young At Art Museum (YAA) is a museum in Davie, Florida founded in 1987 with the belief that art is a fundamental part of a child’s complete education.

Description

YAA is one of only 8 Major Cultural Institutions in Broward County, and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The 55,000 sq. ft. museum features exhibition galleries, a YAA Art Institute, Teen Center, Museum Preschool and Broward County Public Library.

Young At Art Museum (originally named Young At Art Children’s Museum) was founded in 1987 to fill a void in arts education in South Florida public schools. Founded by artists Esther and Mindy Shrago, Young At Art traveled South Florida for two years as a Museum Without Walls, opening in 1989 in a 3,200 sq. ft. storefront in Plantation, Florida. Outgrowing its space immediately, YAA utilized creative means for meeting the demands of families, from leasing storefronts for camps and classes to establishing a Traveling Exhibit Program for small museums in Florida. Ten years later, in response to overwhelming community demand, Young At Art relocated to Davie in 1998, moving into a 24,000 sq. ft. leased space and proving its ability to successfully operate a $1 million+ museum with exhibit galleries, art studio classes, student field trips and events for 100,000 children and families annually.

Over the next decade, Young At Art set its sights on establishing a permanent home. With federal, state, county, town and community support – and through a public/private partnership with Broward County – Young At Art opened a groundbreaking new 55,000 sq. ft. Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) museum and public library on May 5, 2012, named by the Knight Foundation “as one of the most transformative arts initiatives in South Florida.”

Came today with my son and his classmates for the first time. We had been at their previous location in davie which was big and had a lot of activity and a big library. This location is inside the Broward mall. It was pretty small, but very cute. Definitely I recommend it for family with small elementary children. However I do not recommend it for field trip or big groups with kids. They have no bathroom inside and not much to do in there. Their private room for extra activity is literally in the other side of the mall. Definitely no ideal for big groups to walk from one side of the mall to the other side. The additional activity left a lot to desire. They seemed stingy with the clay and seemed rushed. Idk if I would come back.
My great nieces and nephews absolutely loved this museum. They were excited from beginning to end. They were overjoyed to build a circus shadow puppet with special guest artist, David Goboff! I even made one!! A staff member named Carolyn? was so very friendly and inviting. The lady at cash register was the same. There is a gift stand next to cash register. Not much to choose from but that’s not of interest to the kids so not a big deal. After completing shadow puppet we went to museum and they had quite a few areas set up that kept the kids busy. They could water paint, one of my nieces made a American flag. The museum is quite unique. It’s located inside Broward Mall near Dillards. Definitely plan to visit again. The cost was very reasonable; $10. I recommended looking on site to see if any special event or guest because that will be included in fee. I love this museum and it’s set up accommodate kids of all ages!!!
Compared to their old location, this would be a massive downgrade, but my kids under 11 enjoyed it. Any age over that would most likely see it as babyish. They had art stations, a kitchen set, a music station, one retro game spot, small art closets to view, and other common hands activities kids would enjoy at home. Also, a short painting class was given as well. Note: a group rate was given.
Nice place located inside Broward mall for young kids. They can try different activities mostly coloring. Only problem is their area is too small. Good for only couple of hours hour due to space constraint.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Was there for a meeting. Would have never thought a place like this was in a mall. Cool place with lots of great artwork and a great idea for our youth!Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedNot sure
Great place for children!! 100% childproof. Let them be free and enjoy. Our little one loved it so much he didn’t want to leave.
This place is a dump! We check our 3-year-old and we're in and out in less than 10 minutes. Arts and crafts they advertise were simply water painting, marker coloring and crayon coloring stations. This place should have just shut down for good. Not worth the 12-15 a head.
Went for a birthday party and ended up spending all day here with my 4 and 3 year olds. Lots to see and do. Clean place, friendly staff. Annual membership is worth it.
Great for kids and adults! Customer service at cafe was lovely. There is so much to do there and AI much to learn. Definitely going back again. The price is very reasonable. Lots of parking.
Great kids museum where artists show off their fun exhibits to inspire a new generation.
