Luckily, I had a positive experience at this subway location. We were trying to catch up with our group, and missed the train! However, the next one arrived so quickly, we caught them at the next stop. Perfect timing! As for the station itself- if you’re a New Yorker, it’s pretty typical in terms of cleanliness, etc., but hey- it got me where I needed to go, quickly and safely- so, all good.
I usually go to the booth on 79th street and broadway on the downtown side to refill my metrocard when I need exact change. There is a older man at the booth with a very nasty attitude. On several occasions I have politely asked for a refill and I am met with him seeing I am there and then ignoring me. When he finally decides to assist me, he takes his time and then throws the change along with the metrocard. He is usually very rude but my complaint today was that I requested $6 to be put on my metrocard. I try to avoid him at all costs because I know he is very nasty with me on a regular basis but the machines at the station were only producing single rides and I had a $20 bill. I asked him for exactly $6 on my card and confirmed the amount I requested about 5 times. The old man at the booth whom I believe was Indian, takes it upon himself to put $10 on the card instead. Then once again he throws the remaining change and the metrocard. I then begin to tell him this is NOT the amount I asked him for. He asks me if I want him to cancel the transaction and I said yes because I asked for $6 on my card, not $10. He cancels the transaction and rudely throws the $20 bill back to me. I ask him if there’s a problem of why I cannot get exactly $6 on my card and he begins to refuse to assist me. There is absolutely no reason to be rude when dealing with customers. There’s is only one booth at the 79th street and broadway location and now I am terrified of refilling my card with this man at the booth because he is denying his service to me. How is it okay that he gets to refuse to do his job? How am I supposed to continue to be a paying customer when this man whom I believe discriminated against me is working at my local station? I demand he be transferred or removed entirely from the MTA. This has been an ongoing situation and it doesn’t seem like it’s getting any better. Please provide this man with better training or remove him all together because I assure you this will become a bigger problem if he is not removed. I urge you to take my complaint into consideration and reprimand this older Indian man at the 79th street and broadway downtown side location. His customer service skills are horrible and it is not fair to deny service to your loyal paying customers.
Forever will be my favorite station, never crowded and never a long wait for trains! Never homeless people here, or I will say when I'm on the station.
Great uptown station.
