Alzheimer's posters and information booklets in 'comic' format are available in various languages. Call your local office of ASA or email [email protected] if you'd like some. We also have an information pamphlet written in isiXhosa.
If you would like to know of home carers and nursing agencies in your area: please contact your local office of the association. Alternatively, phone the national helpline on 0860 102 681.
• Caregiver Training and Workshops
We offer training to private care workers, government home based care workers, nursing staff, auxiliaries, staff at old age homes and also private individuals. We believe understanding the disease is the first step for the carer as it helps alleviate burnout, stress and depression. In addition, our training enables caregivers to care for a person/s with dementia, ensuring that independence and dignity are maintained, by promoting optimal use of their physical and cognitive skills. Some of our training across the regions includes:
• A certificate course: Caring for the person with dementia;
• Information sessions: Caring for a person with dementia, in a domestic environment;
• Workshops: Activities for people with dementia.
• Volunteer and Support Group Leaders Training
We train volunteers to become qualified counsellors or support group leaders. When finances allow we hope reach more communities, and train more volunteers as they enable us to reach and support more families.
