This is the third iteration of the restaurant and make no mistake the food is good. Some of the dishes are superb try the tripe but I am afraid that the arrogant chef we we’re essentially told we were wrong about a fizz in a Montepulciano and middling service ruins the whole experience. There are better options around.

Amazing Italian food. Nice vibe and great service. Need to book in advance! Can sometimes just be too noisy which makes it difficult to chat when your a big table.

Service is a bit slow but the food makes up for it - superb veal dishes!

One of my favourite restaurants in the area! I travel to JHB regularly and I make it a priority to visit Assaggi! The food it exceptional and the atmosphere is really authentic!

We went back after a very long time, I remember they used to have excellent risottos, ravioli and even the simplest of the pastas which they used to do were delicious but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The menu has changed so much, nothing tastes the same, they seem to serve everything in a tomato sauce which has no flavour whatsoever. The ravioli, linguini, seafood pasta everything just tasted awful, no flavour and the worst was the seafood was not fresh, and mussels were served with its beard!! You never serve clams and mussels which haven’t opened this is standard rule so it was disgusting to find unopened clams and mussels. I definitely won’t be going back sad to see such an old restaurant go down like this.

Gorgeous Italian food every time - Spaghetti Pescatore with crab - superb and our favorite Cannelloni Di Ricotta e Spinaci almost fantastic and Zucchine Fritte - the best - Dolce Della Nonna great decadent dessert . Worth going back again and again.
