Please be advised that the Embassy will only be able to answer your telephone enquires from Monday to Thursday between 02:00 pm and 04:00 pm.

Opening hours for Applications:
- Visa Application: Monday and Thursday from 09:00 am until 12:00 am (appointments only)
- Residence Card Applications: Tuesday and Wednesday from 09:00 am until 12:00 am (appointments only)
- Passport Applications: Monday to Friday from 09:00 am until 12:00 am (appointments only)

South African residents are entitled to apply for their Tourist Visa at the Austrian Embassy in Pretoria or at one of the Visa Application Centres (VFS) in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. VFS Hotline: +27 (0) 12 425 3001

Applications for a Residence Card have to be submitted in person at the Austrian Embassy in Pretoria.

A very competent and efficient Embassy. The ladies are always genuinely trying to help. As long as your documents are in order, you will be helped. If not, you will always be advised about what is exactly missing so you can get whatever Visa you are applying for-an embassy which is a great reflection of its Country, which is itself orderly. I now am a Resident of Austria, thanks to this competent Embassy. Well done.
Every time I go there I'm reminded of how things are supposed to work and it's fantastic! Efficient, no nonsense service. Just make very sure that you understand what documents you need, how many copies, how they need to be authenticated, etc. They run a tight ship with strict procedures, everything is done by the book and for good reason. So don't expect to be able to take any shortcuts. If you're unsure of something, find out first via email or phone.
Very helpful, and super responsive to emails. Don’t forget to book an appointment online, and make sure you have the correct documentation with you when you arrive!

Via email and phone communication the staff were friendly and helpful however, when I flew to Pretoria to finalize my visa application, I found the staff rude and unprofessional. I was interogated regarding my motives for travelling to Austria despite numerous emails prior to the appointment explaining everything. They didn't even know that I had been to Austria 3 times before because they don't do any research. I was told that even though my wife has an Austrian account with €50,000.00 in it that's almost a million Rand, I would need an electronic invitation from here father, because the R100,000.00 in my account was insufficient, what?? My opinion is they just didn't like the look of me and made it as difficult as possible to obtain the visa
My daughter received her and her 2 childrens VISA's today 29 November at about R6700 for the 3 VISA's. Friday 26 November, Austria closed their borders for SA. Will they refund the VISA costs?
