We booked the car for three weeks. On the third day, it did not start anymore. We called avis. They send us a mechanics to take back the car. OK great. But impossible to know what's the next step, to have another car. So basically, 3000€ for three days. Such a scam. Go elsewhere please!!!!!
A very flawed booking system. They let you book a vehicle for which you provide all the payment details and once you think the booking is a done deal, you are told that actually they will let you know whether the requested vehicle will be available or not within 72hours! So you are trapped not knowing whether you will have a car or not but unable to simply cancel and book elsewhere. After 2days I was told my request was denied and the requested vehicle was not available to me. No alternative was offered a simple 'sorry, there is no availability, if you want to book something else please go on avis.com'
Watch out! Every little detail is going to cost you a lot of procedural time and money. Do not rent with a card that does not bear the driver's name. You won't be able to take the car and you will have to go through a complicated procedure to get your money back. Do not bring the car back with extra dust, otherwise you will have to pay 70 euros for the vacuuming. This company leaves a bitter aftertaste. I do not recommend it.
Just avoid Avis in Western-Europe. Car rentals might be fine, but.. if you ever need any sort of customer service, you're lost. Waiting time for customer service line in Belgium was 30+ minutes the last 2 times I called, and the phone number costs 0,30 E / minute, waiting time included. The worst thing is, when they're closed and you select customer service in the phone menu, they still put you in line, but after 30 minutes and paying 10 euro, you end up at the reservations department and all they can do is ask you to call back the next day.
They applied a different rate than my contract indicated, without any notice or agreement from my side. When I called asking for explanations and help "sorry, the invoice is already final" is all I got. Bad advertisement for a company AVIS I've always been happy with otherwise.
Sent emails asking questions, also tried calling. No one picks up the phone, no one answers the email, although they promised a reply within 10 working days. Bad service
Really poor client service. I was charged twice for administrative fees and they never answer the telephone for clarification. When you manage to talk to someone they transfer you and the call falls.
Perfect car and perfect customer service. Bravo.
