Really nice Rest Camp, especially for camping. We got a spot on the fence and every night the Hyena and Civets made their rounds. A couple of Elephants also arrived for some night-time feeding next to our tent. Ablutions were well kept, and the communal kitchen area had nice hot water and an urn. The shop was fairly well stocked. We did not make use of the Restaurant, but it seemed fairly well used by other visitors throughout our stay. Wildlife in the area is abundant, with plenty of Lions, Leopard and even Wild Dog Sightings. We did a Guided Morning Walk with two rangers and saw an Elephant and Lion close up. Best Lion sighting on a walk that both rangers have ever experienced Worth every sent. Can definitely recommend.
One of my favourite rest camps in the Kruger National Park is Berg-en-Dal, which is conveniently close to the Malelane gate. We stayed in one of the bungalows which was spacious and had everything we needed, however we have also previously camped here and can highly recommend it as the plots are nicely laid out and you are almost guaranteed of getting a spot with shade which is great especially during the summer. And when it gets really hot you can also make use of the pool which I think is one of the best compared to the other camps' pools. The pool area is also a good option for parents with kids as there is a small kiddies pool as well as a playground. The main lodge has a very nice curio shop, a restaurant beautifully rebuilt after the fire they previously had and even a small museum with the main focus being rhinos. There are numerous hiking trails within the camp and the staff are some of the friendliest within the park. I have had very good wildlife sightings while staying here and whether you are starting or ending your Kruger journey here, it doesn't matter - you will leave with fond memories of Berg-en-Dal.
Good restaurant in an unusual location. In general, this Berg-en-Dal is different from all that are in the Kruger park. Absolutely extraordinary architecture. It's worth coming even to see what it looks like here. You can walk along the perimeter very close to the border hoofed animals come up. On the dam with a small lake, when we were, there one huge hippopotamus with birds bizarrely lay. Went to the restaurant with an unusual architecture. Ordered a fish with a salad. All is cooked deliciously, without any frills, like everywhere in Kruger's restaurants. Service is excellent in general. We really liked it.
Our stay was good, we saw a lot of animals, best by far. However I must report the camp's maintenance is not up to date, the ablutions is outdated, some taps were not working as well. The funny thing is there is a sign right next to the mirrors stating: To please spare water, but then the cribs water is running the whole time. Hopefully someone reads this review and makes a difference to the Kruger National Park. Otherwise than that, whe had a great time.
Small campsite, very quiet. We stayed in tented camp, read the small print- no crockery, cutlery or kettle. All with good shade. I misplaced my phone and all the staff in the camp, even the manager were on the lookout for it. Very friendly shop, garage and cleaning staff. Easy distance to Lower sabie too. Some cats but lots of Ellies and grazers.
Berg en Dal is a big restcamp with a lot of chalets, furnished tents and camping sites. Unfortunately this camp also shows neglect like the rest of the other rest camps since maintenance of accommodation are not done properly. The grounds inside the are unneat since long gras and weeds are growing everywhere and the gardens are not kept well. There are lots of leaves laying around throughout the camp and you can see that the groundsmen do not what they are supposed to do. The ablution fascilities are in need of essential maintenance.
We traveled to Kruger in mid-May 2022 and spent our first night at Berg-en-Dal in unit BA3U. Our unit was clean, quiet, and we had plenty of room it was just two of us. Pros: It's a great first stop a short drive from Malelane Gate we arrived from Johannesburg late in the afternoon. It's also a great location for game sightings. We saw two leopards the next morning not far from the camp. Cons: It was our least favorite restaurant during our stay in Kruger we also stayed at Lower Sabie, Satara, and Skukuza. Pro tip: Bring a flashlight or torch. We walked to the restaurant at dusk, came home in the dark. We were thankful that we had a light!
It's a very big, somewhat old, Kruger National Park rest camp. There is a very big pool including a nice kiddies pool for play and to cool down. A small shop has most supply you would normally need ...even frozen slush-puppy TM!!! for those very hot days in the park!
Great relaxing environment, excellent for just chilling out for a braai, swimming at the pool or taking rides around the south west corner of Kruger park!Atmosphere: 5/5
I have not been to every camo in Kruger National Park, but this definitely my favourite thus far and easily trunks the larger camps like Skukuza and Lower Sabie. The ablutions are spotless and the showers are easy to work with. Hit water is never an issue, unlike some of the sister camps. The camp has a petrol station and well-stocked park shop for everyday groceries and alcohol for those who want to enjoy extracurricular proclivities. The pool has to be the most beautiful in the park, with maybe Pretoriuskop in the running as well. Well worth the visit
