Cafe 19 was originally started in 1992 in Alberton from a Mobile Caravan in Andries Street , Brackendowns , Alberton as "House of Chicken" following our association with "Chickenland" now known as "Nandos" and selling grilled chicken , prawns , prego steak and chicken rolls , chips , coffee and "Special Porra" Coffee .
We moved to Port Elizabeth in Dec 1995 and after a few years of missing the Portuguese lifestyle of Johannesburg which was missing in Port Elizabeth , we decided to open a Portuguese Bakery . As we were unable to get the correct staff with the cultural background , we opted for a Portuguese Restaurant / Coffee Shop .
The initial idea in 2008 / 2009 was one to start a coffee shop in the mornings for the wife and to generate work for the son and now daughter-in-law as a future for them and In the evenings a Portuguese Restaurant , as there are only a few genuine
Portuguese Chicken Houses in PE and a Restaurant or two , Solmar and Shannas.
So the idea was put into motion when we found restaurant premises at 19 St Stephens Street , Richmond Hill and thus the name "Cafe Nineteen " but unfortunately due to zoning problems we had to stop operating from these premises and closed down .
Now after an absence of 4 years we are back albeit on the road and we now come to you , to your events , sports meetings , parties you name it , we are MOBILE again bringing the goods to you . So if you enjoyed our Cafe 19 and Restaurant experience before , rest assured you are going to get that self same Quality of Food and Service from Johnny and Lee-ann.
We will have different Menus at different venues but once we hit the open ground and NOT limited to what we can serve , we WILL certainly deliver what you most want , GOOD QUALITY TASTY PORTUGUESE FOOD . Look out for our "BLACKMOBILE" or simply call us to have your own party and we will cater for you .
