Café Skyzer is a restaurant is the Chesterville/ Mayville area of Mkhumbane. Mkhumbane is one of the oldest, historical and cultural areas of the greater Durban area. Residents include musicians, Sipho Gumede, Eddie Enicker, politicians, President Jacob Zuma and activist, Florence Mkhize. King Goodwill Zwelithini’s mother, Queen Thomozile’s burial site is in the Mkhumbane area. Café Skyzer was born on 17 August 2014 and was named after Edgar ‘Skyzer’ Makhanya who was born and raised in the area, and was popular amongst the locals. His son opened the restaurant in keeping with the legacy that is Skyzer and all that it signifies; style, class, taste and ubuntu. This is a place where individuals who are modernised, yet still love township life and culture, can come together and socialise over a great meal and drinks in a safe and fun environment. We will bring entertainment back into the township as was done in its heyday when the likes of Sipho Gumede, Hugh Masekela and Stimela were banned and only performed in the townships.
