First-time rugby experience watching the Stormers vs Connacht at the stadium. Clean, well-maintained, and organized. Enough food and beer stalls to cater to all. Queue's move quick; overall good experience.
My first time in this spectacular stadium!! The Stormers played against Connacht Irish Rugby Team in the Semi-finals. The Stormers won 43-25. There was a wonderful atmosphere, and it was a record crowd of over 47000 people that came to watch the game!!
Amazing stadium, amazing fans! Security lines move a little slow and we had s little trouble navigating the seating, but overall I loved this stadium and the stormers game was electrifying.
The stadium is wonderful, parking isn't far away, entering and leaving was seamless and we'll organised. The Monster trucks was so much fun, we will definitely go again.
Advantages - Great Rugby experience . We ordered our tickets online very swift process. The event was well organized. It took us 5 min or less to get through the ticket gates. There are a lot of food and beverage stands to choose from. The cheerleading dance at the beginning of the game was fun to watch. It set a great tone for the game. The toilets are clean and the service is efficient. Loved it #DHLStomersWon! Disadvantages - The traffic/routes to and from the game are not controlled. It took us 3 hours to get outside the stadium after the game and about 5 to drive a 30min trip. That was exhausting.
From where you drive to the Stadium it's great to see how organized everything is with the control and flow of traffic by Law Enforcement and when you get the entrance security steps in and controls everything you get patted down and then you scan in your ticket and off you go... It was awesome to see that they make provisions for persons in wheelchair with access to the hole stadium. You can buy beer, hot dogs, burgers, ice cream and the ablution facilities are neat and tide with cleaners clean consistently. There was 42000 spectators at the game and it was awesome the see and listen to them singing, cheering and doing the Mexican way, I will definitely be back....
The Cape Town Stadium, I think is a good fit for Cape Town. One has a good sight of the ongoings on the field. When full there is a beautiful vibe especially if the team that you support is doing well. I did find the P. A . System can do with a bit of an upgrade. One couldn't hear announcements clearly. I also feel that the "big screens" need to larger. It was quite difficult for a person with compromised vision i.e. a senior citizen like myself who wears specs, to see clearly especially the sport replays. The high cost of food is criminally expensive!!! As a senior citizen on a government pension to have to pay R45 for an ice cream on a stick is downright day light robbery. This item one could buy in a shop at R10. I do believe that whoever is responsible for food and beverage side of running the Stadium needs to investigate and put measures in place to control these costs. Either the stallholders are greatly overcharging and making huge profits in a short space of time or they are forced to charge these huge prices to cover the exorbitant rentals that they are being charged by Stadium Management. This cannot be allowed to go on. On the occasion of the URC rugby final there was a huge crowd of something like 50 000 people. This meant that one had to be in the Stadium at 3 hours before kickoff. Now since one is not allowed to bring your own food into the Stadium, one is now forced to buy food inside same. For a family of 4 Father, Mother and 2 children it would cost a small fortune to keep them all fed for 5 to 6 hrs. OUCH, OUCH, OUCH!!! I also felt that as a first time attendee, it was difficult to find the entrance to the stands that we needed to use. There were insufficient, properly trained ushers available. We had to be moved more that once as we had been directed by security personnel to the incorrect seating positions. Very annoying!!! The City of Cape Town laid on transport to and from the Civic Centre at no cost. Very well done. On leaving the Stadium after the event one had to enter the underground parking area then traverse through a tunnel to catch the bus back to the Civic Centre. There were no officials with loudhailers on hand to direct passengers to the correct boarding areas. In a 100m long tunnel where the only movement was forward one felt like cattle being herded to the Abbatoir. It took more than half and hour to get out of same on a stop, start procession waiting for busses to arrive back from their last trip. My great fear was for people who were claustrophobic would be overcome as well as us senior citizens who have health issues could get sick being caught up in that throng. Not a good idea for this system to be used. I do believe that there were and are alternatives but I won't say anything about that. There was not preferential arrangements made for us senior citizens or the sickly. I guess in this case we should just have stayed away. As a first time user, I don't think that I would want to attend an event of this magnitude at the stadium again. Thank you very much. I sincerely hope that the Mayor reads this review. Signing off along with the great disappointment that the Stormers Rugby team dished up on the night when they were supposed to "MAKE CAPE TOWN SMILE" . Most when away absolutely miserable at the loss.
What an amazing experience, the atmosphere, the energy, the love for Rugby. To hear the roar of the stadium supporting their team was absolutely exhilarating.
I have attended three big events at this stadium since 2010 World Cup and it is always a pleasure and a fun, scenic experience! Most recent attendance was the Imagine Dragons concert, my first proper concert experience at this stadium, and I was blown away by not only the setup but the effects, seating capacity, general cleanliness for such a vast public space that frequently hosts major events and food trucks they had/have dotted around the outer stadium. The bathrooms are clean and there are plenty on each level. If attending a concert, standing or premium seated seem to be the best. I had premium seated Lower Tier 116 Red - Row: 12 Seat: 33 and it was ideal. Comfortable, quick and easy getting in and out and no queuing for ages beforehand. Literally went to queue 45 mins before the gates opened. My view of the stage and concert experience from my seat was perfect too. The only issue on the day was concert staff and security were friendly but a bit clueless and directionless until the gates opened and we were inside, so there was some disorganisation in that sense - but that falls more on concert organisers, I feel. If you attend an event here, parking is your biggest concern. I recommend parking at the V&A but maybe only if you go in a big group and it is safe to walk back at night; it's a short-ish walk, otherwise use P10 near the Green Point park like we did. It was safe, secure and nice parking but you do need to nab a spot early. Leaving from big events takes time with the traffic - so you can safely add an extra 30-60 mins onto your event just to get from the stadium into CBD side.
Parking, staff, cleanliness, business lounge, barman's and the spread of the most devices snacks, amazing food selection a d yummy desserts. Sorry for the loss of my Stormers.
