My hip replacement was performed successfully at this hospital in May 2020. I was thoroughly impressed with the nursing staff in theatre and in the ward, cleaners, and meal attendants. The orthopaedic surgeon and physio who treated me were first class too. The view from my window was wonderfully soothing.
Had a great experience at the hospital for the birth of my twin sons. There was some hiccups at first in terms of response time to calls especially while my wife was recovering from C Section, but in general the Maternity Ward and Labour Ward staff were incredibly supportive and helpful and made the start of our little ones lives far more manageable for us first time parents. We couldn't be more thankful to them.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I had my baby there on 4 January 2023 and my experience was just amazing. The hospital is clean and lovely and all the staff from the doctors down to the cleaning staff are phenomenal and caring. I have no complaints about my stay and will definitely use the hospital again when needed.
Nurses at ward 1 is so unfriendly. Visitors allowed at 7, went there for my first time but I felt so disgusted. I thought maybe there is something wrong with me. I greeted them twice before one looked up and greeted back. There was about 6 of them standing there. Very unfriendly and cold....
This hospital is really bad. I have been at N1 City Netcare with my kids and myself and it is one of the best hospitals ever. So naturally I thought Christian Barnard would be the same but it is far from the case. In hospital at the moment and this has been my experience so far: 1. My drip was put in wrong on my hand and got pulled out leaving an immediate sore bruised blue to lump on my hand. Then was put in my arm, I started to notice blood in the pipe. Rang now and after 10 mins of constant beeping someone came. I explained the case and they said it’s not normal and would call a nurse. 30 mins later and still waiting for someone and there is more blood and my arm is paining. 2. I had one neb and antibiotic given to me a few hours ago and they haven’t given more meds. Again I asked and still waiting 3. My food came, I asked for juice, it came a hour after my food was finished. For supper I ask again because they just drop the food and leave. Almost finished with my food and I ask a nurse again, eventually the food lady brings it very upset now because I asked the nurse. When fetching the food she was still sulking. 4. I had to buy earphones for watching TV. It was R30, the first one broke completely when coming out the packet. The second one’s left ear keep on coming in with sound and leaving but I payed for this cheap stuff. 5. The volume of the TV keeps on going up on full and hurting my ears. Oh and still waiting for the nurse to come for my drip. Worse hospital probably in the WC Update: still in hospital and it’s 8:30 at the moment, still haven’t had breakfast. There is one other patient opposite me in the room who is diabetic and needs to eat for medication but we haven’t had food. Hand towels has been out of the bathroom for almost a day, I press the button in the bathroom all the time for a cleaner to come and replace it but still haven’t even come to check why someone is pressing the button. Someone should seriously speak to the practice manager because he/she isn’t doing a good job if this is the level of staff that services the hospital. Another update: Now the nurse came in asking for my file. They can’t find it. My personal medical information and they can’t find it.
Worst care in the pediatric ward ! DONT ADMIT YOUR CHILD THE STAFF IS CARELESS! My doctor rushed me and my baby to the ward she told the entire staff to watch closely at my baby through the night. No one came to check on us. I woke up at 4am had to call someone to ask if we needed to give her a nebulizer. Nurse came in looked puzzled and gave us one, from then on I had to call for a nurse to question them if it’s time for another nebulizer or state I think it’s time for her medicine. In all I was very polite about everything never got upset just wanted to get my baby better. Night 2 rolls around I ask for more water in my canister she brings it back and without me thinking I take a gulp of scolding hot water there was no warning from her that it’s very hot mam please be careful just set it down. My entire mouth burnt and inside of my lip bleeding. I questioned why she brought me scolding water she thought I asked for it ? I never asked for hot water I just asked for water the. I asked again can I have normal water she bring back scolding water again and it sensed like she thought it was funny. Not cool at all. I asked where the toilet was one lady pointed me to a door that seemed obvious that wasn’t where the toilet was and it was a hall to some other side she then laughed and rolled her eyes
My husband and I waited 7 hours in the emergency room to be told that his appendix needed to be removed. I understand that the emergency nurses and doctors work under a lot of pressure but that particular night it was not busy at all so to keep a sick patient waiting 7 hours for a diagnosis is unreasonable. We were also not informed when the shift change happened and had to keep asking the nurses what's happening. I felt like he could have been diagnosed within 2-3 hours max.
I had to beg each and every nurse for food they kept saying it's coming for over an hour...the lady next to me had biscuits and a Powerade and gave it to me, my operation was cancelled on the day due to other factors so I was npm from 5am and I got to the hospital at 12 on the 30Nov. I had no money and no phone on me because my family would only bring it that evening ...when a porter came to fetch me for x-rays I told him I would go on one condition he organise me a bottle of water I'm not joking ppl water a basics need which I was deprived of in this hospital yes the view is great but I came to be taken care of...then I had an insident in ICU on Saturday 3 Dec morning the matron came apologised and that was it no follow-up no email no call atleast my doctor did that. As well as the other party involved...had to go back 8th emergency operation and was put in hight care where the same nurse who was wonderfull from ICU was assigned to me what a blessing to have the 3 following nurses by my side Xolelwa Fukatw, N Japha, X Qampi other senior nurses should learn from them as they lost their passion Gogo move aside let the young ppl show you how it's done..so Friday 9th Dec morning during the nurses handover one of the senior nursing staff thought it appropriate an professional to make a joke about the incidents that happened to me on Saturday 3rd Dec morning. Lastly I want to thank Wedaad from the empact kitchen I'm sorry I did not get her full name but she kept checking on me in the ward while I was waiting for my family to come ...I would not recommend this hospital with such a proud historical name to the 2 star rating is for my doctor and all the staff who still have passion for their job.
This hospital is amazing. I spent 5 days here and as dreadful as that may sound, the staff took care that it won't be. Everything is neat and of high standard. The nurses were friendly and attentive. Towards the weekend the service started to slack and it was a struggle to receive some help, but otherwise I was very happy. Unfortunately the food options do not reflect healthy nutrition, as one would naturally expect from a health care facility. However, I would gladly return since it is so convenient to have numerous specialists sitting under the same roof, making it all hassle free.
Hai. The doctor was kind but left without giving full info. The nurses were something else. I came into their emergency room, nurses acted as if they are doing you a favour rhaaa. I'm starting to think it's a Netcare thing coz I had a similar experience at a netcare in Pretoria...
