This is an amazing place. Clean roons, with all you need when on the road. Excellent service. The staff made everything easy. The restaurant was tops. Anika was our waiter, and what a joy!!! We can recommend still place without hesitation..Rooms: 5/5
Awesome place to stay with kids. On-site restaurant with the best chicken pizza and ostrich fillet. Swimming pools, play area for kids. Quiet and close to Cango Caves
What an unpleasant stay and experience. There's a huge lack in communication between staff. Asked numerous times to speak to the owner to address the issue in person rather than airing it on public platforms but Renier not sure on spelling said he's the receptionist to the owner and he'll ask the owner when we can make an appointment to see the owner/s. Still waiting for this to be addressed or for some feedback other than the staff at reception. Booking was a mess, breakfast was ok although we were interrupted twice in front of other guests asking us to pay for breakfast, even though Renier ensured us this was resolved and we shouldn't have been confronted etc. It's sad to see how little client service means to businesses in smaller towns and how issues are rubbed off instead of ensuring the guests are satisfied with their overall stay and experience. Our 2nd and last time we'll visit. And unfortunately word of mouth will spread negatively. On our day of departure there was no water from any taps and we were unable to shower etc. They even asked some guests to pay R200 to braai at the swimming pool? Ridiculous. Oh and the whatsapp number is non existent, they don't reply to messages so completely useless. Update: Due to no option to reply to the rude reply below I will reply here. Yes, when we arrived your other "manager" said we should pay the remaining R488.50 for the room. We corrected him and said were staying for 3 nights, as per the message and replies on Afristay and as per the calls made to your establishment before arrival and confirmed with your staff. We explained this 3 times on 3 platforms, is that not enough? We then settled the entire 3 night outstanding amount right there for R1465.50. Total of R2931 for 3 nights. That's besides the room we booked for our friends for 2 nights. When you said the breakfast wasn't included we offered to pay R600 for breakfast for 2 mornings. The receptionist/manager Renier then came to us while dining at your restaurant yes our friends and us still supported you again and said we overpaid and only need to pay an additional R91.50 to have breakfast for 2 mornings which we paid as well. Only to be told on the last evening of our stay that we need to pay R488.50 again for the room which we settled on the day of arrival. Again, lack of communication your side. We asked for the contact details of the owner and Renier said we can use the same email for the establishment but we asked for a direct email address or number instead and again via WhatsApp and received a reply later today with Doret's email. We'll send an email to Doret as well. Instead of accepting responsibility, and apologizing you continue to blame guests for mistakes even Renier agreed were made by your establishment and the lack of communication was used by Renier as well to explain their service. If the below reply was from the owner, I am appalled, if the below is from the manager, you need to go back to business school as you've clearly skipped some lessons.
Spent a pleasant night here with a fabulous breakfast. Service is excellent. It's a great place to bring children, there's a huge petting zoo, play area, loads of space to run around, two swimming pools and a huge bass dam for fishing. There are even huts on the dam which can be hired so you can fish from your balcony!Rooms: 4/5
Was an amazing stay. We were a family of 4. Kids had their own room. Our unit was clean , very comfortable and everything worked perfectly. Almost felt a little like home. Wifi signal was not the best but we were trying to escape the grasp of Cellphones. Great stay and will definitely come back
We spent two nights at the Oude Meul and would have been happy to stay longer. The room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. The view from the little stoep was through some magnificent trees to the hillside beyond, so peaceful and beautiful. There was one lovely pool near our room with plenty of loungers and surrounded by the pretty garden. Another pool was also a available and beautifully kept. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant on the premises is pleasantly located right by the river - the old mill wheel that gives the property its name is still in place as a fascinating piece of history. There are animals in various areas of the property, not only ostriches but also rabbits, deer, and a couple of ponies. An imaginative kiddies’ playground makes this place heaven for kids as well as adults. We hope to return with our grandchildren!
Lots to do with the kids, accommodation was great everything you need and comfortable. Restaurant on site is a bonus especially if you dont want to cook.Rooms: 5/5
A really good stopover place on your way from Johannesburg to the Eastern / Western Cape. Comfortable, clean room with a delicious breakfast. Lots of lovely animals and great scenery. Anton was an excellent host who was most accommodating.
Lovely glamping experience in a serene nature setting. Helpful staff. The tent was very clean & neat and even had an aircon and outdoor shower within the pristine nature setting! Temperatures soared to 42°C in Jan 2022 when we were there, so the air condition was devine.
This place is a beautiful oasis in one of the most arid regions of the Klein Karoo. It has green pastures with weeping willow trees, lush green lawns, beautiful flower beds and is completely surrounded by mountains. Endless entertainment and activities for young and old, such as guided 4x4 excursions, bass fishing, swimming, trampolines and animal interactions, to name a few. The chalets are beautifully maintained, spotlessly clean and stocked with everything you could possibly need. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Worth every penny
