My experience with Thrifty Car rental in Cape Town, December 2022, was horrendous! Never have I seen employees trying to dodge responsibility for sorting out issues or becoming competent at their responsibilities more than during December holiday when renting a car from Cape Town airport. After another car ran into me on day 1 of the rental, the only real effort that was made was when it came to taking an extortionate deposit from my credit card. - No thoughts of having paid for the car on collection. - No documentation of the deposit paid for damages. - No thought of sending me an invoice as they already had what they needed. I can go on and on and on... Luckily I got in contact with Nicola Esterhuizen, in the PE branch, who seemed to be the only person who understood how anything at Thrifty works. After multiple phone calls with Nicola, who kept me up to date with information they had and what they needed, she was finally able to get everything sorted regarding this rental. If it was not for her I'm pretty sure that I would be dealing with this for another year, as none of the other Thrifty members I spoke to in Santon or Cape Town seemed to have any idea what anyone does or where I can go to get resolution. It is shocking to me that people are willing to accept a salary for standing around and just saying "Sorry, I don't know about that one". Thank you Nicola! You renewed my faith in people, that some, like you, actually care about your work and the clients your company proposes to serve. You probably do 90% of all the work over there.
Worst place to rent your car in PE. Rented a van myself on the 10th of September and made a deposit of 8000ZAR, three times more than the actual rental price. Because of international banking it would take longer to get my deposit back. However, we are four months later and I still haven’t got any penny back from the 8000ZAR. Absolutely disgraceful. If you are in PE, NEVER RENT A CAR HERE!
I want to express my appreciation for the excellent customer service from Naasig PE Airport. His willingness to always assist and go the extra mile is greatly appreciated . I have certainly referred my friends and family to the Thrifty counter all thanks to him Happy client Ntsepiseng
I was given an excellent service @ Dollar Thrifty at the Port Elizabeth Airport by Nassig Scharnick.
Not sure what the point is of booking online. You stand in a queue behind everyone else who didn't. No option for express service if you booked and paid online.
Friendly and helpful staff. Car was pretty inspected and all imperfections correctly noted. Return process was also easy and efficient with friendly service. I arrived a bit early for my collection but thankfully the car was already there and ready for me. I've been to other Thrifty Branches and this one definitely stands apart! Great staff Great Branch

If you are an international traveller : NEVER USE THRIFTY in South Africa. I hired a car in early March and returned it the same day completely as per routine. It was confirmed that everything was as expected and my deposit would be returned. It is now May and Thrifty have NOT RETURNED MY DEPOSIT. Their customer service has failed to investigate the issue and I am now out of pocket due to their denial of the issue. My money was essentially stolen and it’s impossible to get it back from Thrifty. If you value integrity, and trust that you aren’t getting swindled - rather use other rental companies in South Africa, there are plenty of more trustworthy options.
Worst car rental so far. I paid for a category B car and asked for a Polo specifically a week in advance, was given an i10 which is a category A cheapie and was told that this one was a 1.4 which makes it Category B. Laughable. I asked whether they could offer me anything else, no sir, we have no other cars available, not even in a better class. Use them if you like being disappointed. See below from their own website, actually a bit scammy. Avoid. *edit: they asked me to send my details via email to 'resolve'. Lol. Not even a reply after I did as asked and sent all the details. If I could choose zero stars I would. Cut and paste reply to a valid concern, shows you what they think of their customers. There are many other car rental companies in that little airport.
The worse helpful car rental one can use. The service is bad. Got the car on the 13th of April. Upon collections no one was at the bay to assist with assessing the car but I let that slide as eventual someone came. The car was old had funny sounds and it was not what was advertised upon booking. It kept in switching off for my 5days if using it. Now the most annoying thing I returned their car on the 17th of April and all was well but i still have not received my deposit till this day. When i called afteer returning the car i was told that I would receive my deposit in 7days but I never did. I kept on calling story changed that i will receive my deposit after 14days. Guess what it is more then 14days and I still have not received my deposit. Despite the fact that I call them everyday but the is no one willing to assist. Instead they send me from pillar to post. One minute they are escalating my issues it will take 24hours. I call after 24hours nothing has been done. I would never advise anyone to hire cars from them. 3 senior people I have been referred too but they also dont know their stories... Norman Naicker, Marlirn Van Wyk and Kemendri whom is suppose to call the bank. All the consultants are rude.... you dont even deserve a single star.
