Got the best care, info on procedure and how complications will be prevented, preoperative advice on meds, skin preparation and supplements to avoid. Dental exam report,chest xray, ECG, blood tests. Post op care, physical. Was able to drive 4 wks after knee replacement.
I was in so much pain, could only stand up and walk with great difficulty. I considered knee surgery, but fear was trying to get the better of me because of my traumatic experience during my previous knee replacement operation 8y ago. During my first appointment with dr Charl Olivier he immediately spotted that my left replaced knee was bent, unbalanced and loose - confirmed by the x-rays. From the onset he acknowledged me as the expert of my own life. Together we decided on a knee revision. This was done at the ZAH in Pretoria one week ago. Although it was a painful operation, the pain was well controlled. I felt physically safe and emotionally cared for by all the hospital staff, the drs, the physios, the anaethesist in the theatre and especially by dr Olivier. They physically provided me with hot blankets before theatre. In theatre the one assistant of the anaethesist tightly held me in her arms while I was receiving the injection in my back. I never felt alone. The next morning Dr Olivier and his team visited me in hospital, providing me with an x-ray of the new knee. He looked like a specialist proud of his work. But he was also much concerned about my well- being, my pain levels, my general experience of the events so far. The meticuluous care of this team: pre-, during- and post-operative is remarkable. For me they have silenced the voice of fear re knee replacement surgery. Thank you dr Charl Olivier and your team. May God keep on blessing your work.
