Florida Fire Station

Earlier this afternoon 3 June 2021 one apartment in our complex had a fire - seems like a electrical blanket was left on ... but not to worry it was by the grace of the Almighty soon discovered. Someone phoned the fire department and reported it. We were expecting a quick response because the Florida Fire Station is just around the corner - about 1km away ... but no one came ... we phoned again ... and was told not to report it again they will come. A senior Fire Fighter living close by heard about the fire on his vehicle radio and he came and inspected the fire. Meanwhile we used the fire hidrant in the complex to do our best to stop the fire spreading - it was now in the roof. The one guy did a splendid job in stopping the spread of the fire. I asked the Fire Fighter where is his team and he said they are on there way ... just to hear from our chairman that there is only a handful of working fire enjins in Johannesburg! But the shocking news was that there is NO working fire enjin in the Florida Fire Station just about 1km from us!!! What is the use of having a major Fire Station on your doorstep but there is no one to help you when you need them? Those responsible for this situation must be arrested and thrown in jail!!!

On 25 September 2017, we called the station to report a fire. The operator said that units were already on the way. 30 minutes later there was still no sign of the fire brigade. I phoned again and was continuously put on hold then cut off. I tried to lodge a complaint but was quickly cut off. There was no accountability.

I called for a huge field fire but the operator told me to get a older person end declined the call

They were called 16x to come put out a fire that could I'd destroyed our houses and our pets and no one bothered to help?? You just kept putting the phone down. What the hell did you get a new truck for when you never use it

Had to call Fire Stoppers Specialists firess.co.za , the local fire station took ages to come.

Response times to incidents in the immediate vicinity of the station take mysteriously long
