Description

The well-known Gunston twins, Jonathan and Nic, from Two Olives and The Chartroom respectively, are opening a new restaurant titled, Gunston’s GastroPub, with their brother Tim.
Both Two Olives (2nd) and the Chartroom (7th) made it onto our Top 10 Restaurants in the Eastern Cape in 2015, so much can be expected from their new venture.
For the many fans of the twin’s Stanley Street and Algoa Bay Yacht Club based restaurants, please be assured that these two delightful eateries are NOT closing; the brothers are simply expanding into another venture.
Nic says; “We have put all our years of experience into this new venture and Tim, currently one of the managers at The Chartroom, will be the manager at Gunston’s. Patrons can rest assured that the service, atmosphere and food will be awesome.”
Gastronomes will be pleased to know that Jonathan has created a unique menu that is best described as ‘gastropub’.
“The gastro in our name comes from the word gastronomic which means the art of eating good food and in our context, we’re aiming at good pub food”, says Jonathan.
He adds, “Our menu will be unlike our other restaurants or any other pub or restaurant in Port Elizabeth for that matter. Beer Chicken, Mac and Cheesballs (deep fried Macaroni Cheese), Beer Battered Fish with Mushy Peas, Flatbreads and Corndogs are some of the items that we plan to serve. This will complement the large variety of craft beers, both bottled and on-tap, that will be available.”
No doubt you are wondering about the location of Gunson’s GastroPub? Well it is very conveniently going to be located in the same place as the Colonial Kitchen (8th place in 2015) that very sadly shut down a few months ago.
Gunston’s, like the Colonial Kitchen, will have seating both indoors, on the veranda and in the garden. Live music will be a regular feature.
Personally, I am a huge fan of the Gunston brothers and look forward with much anticipation to the opening of their new venture.

The food was okay, they should really invest on a drinks menu because the waiters will tell you a drink is a certain price but will be something completely different on the bill
Good food, great service just the portions are a bit to little, BUT nice atmosphere and really beautiful inside
If you looking for good food, with a relaxing atmosphere then this is the place to go. Good value for your money. Also a good family restaurant. Well worth the try.
Great food and atmospheer. Loved the fact that the owner is visible, chats to the patrons and adds the extra touch to a growing business. It has a great future ahead.
Food and service above average. Noise levels are quite high and could be dampened with a little careful planning. It positions itself as a gastro pub, but really, it's emphasis is on the food.
26 in a party with excellent inexpensive food dished up at the same time. Great social atmosphere and able to mingle easily. A definite again
Awesome food, great service. Food prices are excellent. Try the beer infused cheese burger!!!!
Loved the food, good service and casual atmosphere.
Friendly staff, but service extremely slow. 6 people in restaurant at midday on Saturday and we waited over an hour for a Guinness Pie and a Pizza.
Well priced simple menu. Good quality food in creative combinations. Don't be in a hurry, this is a place to chill and relax.
