A nice and friendly dental studio. However, looking at these reviews, I seem to not be the only one that has been surprised about the quote i received after my annual checkup. I phoned prior to making a booking and they said just the checkup would be around R800, yet i had to pay around R2k, plus they said i needed to see their hygienist for another R1.5k. I was advised to get some very minor treatment done to some of my teeth to prevent later issues. I really am not even struggling with my teeth at this point, yet i was quoted for 5 appointments - 1.5 hours each for a total price of R22.7k. Of course I will not go ahead with this and so I am disappointed as i feel like i have wasted my money and nothing has even been solved. I know i will be able to go to another dental practice to do the treatment for +-R2.5k, as others have told me.
I have just had a very good experience of a tooth extraction with Dr Andy Effting. Plus all the staff are very warm and welcoming and the practice has 1st class facilities and equipment - Thanks you!

Your kindness in helping out a stranger who had never been to your Practice before went beyond the call of duty. You have a new client going forward.
Dr. Effting has been looking after my teeth since I was born. My family and I have grown up in Hout Bay for over 17 years and we’ve always turned to him whenever we needed a dental appointment. Not only did he polish and fix my teeth today, but he did it in such a way, that left a smile on my face from both his service and the gratitude of looking at my new and improved teeth. The service was great, I felt very comfortable throughout the whole process and everyone was friendly. Overall a good normal dental experience - just like at every other private practice. However, I was disappointed in the lack of communication about the prices that they charged. I found them on google, booked my annual check up and presented the DR and hygienist a list from medical aid stating everything that they cover for annual check ups including the dental codes. I informed him that I had no concerns and he should please just follow the list. Not once did anyone mention that their rate was quite a bit higher like more than 3 times the price than medical aid rates. I understand that I did not request a quote for a dental check up just as I have never done before in my life, but the fact that I gave the dentist the list with medical aid codes and nothing was said is what is disappointing. They also gave me a treatment plan - very prepared on their part, where they said I needed a lot of fillings and had multiple issues all of which would cost me 17k. I was very surprised as I did not think I had any issues and had just came for a check up. I then went to another 2 private dentists for a quote as this was quite a bit of money. Both of these other dentists offered fantastic service too, seemed to have newer fancier tech, yet both of them quoted 2.5k-2.8k for the work which needed to be done and said I didn’t really have much wrong with my teeth. So, its a wonderful dental studio, absolutely no problem with the service. However, please just remember to get a quote and maybe a second opinion as they try to fix more than what they should be fixing.

I was vacationing in Cape Town when my crown fell off only after 9 months so I needed to find a dentist to put this back on asap. Luckily, I was staying in Hout Bay and found this dental studio. My bf typed "crown dentist cape town" in Google and this place came up on the first page. They were able to see me the next day. Making an appointment was super easy and the office was very responsive. Dr David Malan took care of me. He was quick to identify the problem and explain why my old crown couldn't be put back on. It was fractured and wasn't cemented properly by my dentist in Hong Kong, the crown was also too thin which is why it broke. Because he was able to explain this in such detail, the dentist who did this for me was willing to pay for my replacement. They had the equipment in this office to make a new crown on the same day, which was impressive given I had to wait 2 weeks for my previous one to be made. I had to have my molars shaved down a little bit more in order for the new crown to fit it had to be thicker. They had all the equipment to do everything so quickly and with ease, I was super impressed with the service and how hi-tech everything was. Dr Malan was professional and gentle, and made what could have been a really terrible and painful procedure very pleasant. I've had a lot of dentists before, bad ones as well as really good ones. I would consider Dr Malan the best dentist I've ever had. It might even be a reason to come back to Cape Town for my check up in the future!! I'd highly recommend this dentist, you don't need to go anywhere else.
Top notch, friendly staff that makes you feel like the most important customer. Dr. David Malan has been so good to me the last 15 months, taking great care to recommend the best treatment options, watching my budget, and today getting me in SAME DAY for a repair at no charge!. Highly recommended!
I cannot recommend this practice more highly. I found the work carried out to an exceptionally high standard. I had a fairly complicated and in depth treatment plan which was explained very clearly and carried out with great skill. I would also like to mention the assistants and the reception staff who always had a smile and a kind word which helps enormously when you are feeling nervous about a procedure.
They basically looked at every tooth and told me that there was something wrong with it. Two other dentists from a different practice then looked at it and said that there was nothing wrong. They just want your money :
