Friendly staff, restroom are clean and safe to overnight
Great place for a day trip to fish. Only negative to much dog poop around shore of the dam.
Overall decent experience - Bathrooms are somewhat tatty and the camping stands are a little squashed, making line casting a bit contentious. But othweise it was a peaceful and clean environment.

Peace and quiet - Beginning of April, a Wednesday afternoon at 3pm I phoned Petro at Hengelaarsvriend Hengelaarsvriend Holiday Resort – asked for a 2-person cabin. 4pm - we left home. Made sure we packed our small ‘windshield braai’ – the last time at the dam, the wind made it difficult for a fire. Just after 6pm we arrived at Roodeplaat Junction – hoped the Spar was still open! It was quite busy, but queue moved fast. Got sirloin steaks for Hein, Bacon-Cheese sausage almost like a Cabanossi and boerewors – packet of Big Korn Bites, 2 bags of wood and firelighters – some buns. No need for charcoal. Arrived at Hengelaarsvriend around 6h30 pm – got key from the guard he actually remembered our car!. At the cabin, I unpacked everything into the bar fridge and cabinets – Hein assembled the camp cupboard. The fire was lit – we exhaled and relaxed into our chairs – it was a perfect night! Weather amazing, no wind at all. Hein haven’t had any alcohol for 3 weeks Lent, so he cracked the 1st beer and the first sip was magic. Hein grilled a Sirloin – then put a piece of boerewors and piece of Bacon-Cheese sausage on grill. I cut off the steak’s crispy fat and cut the steak in bite-size pieces … the fat was yum and Hein enjoyed his salt and white pepper grilled steak! When the sausages were ready, we quickly toasted some buns and with my homemade Peppadew chutney, dinner was enjoyed next to the dam. It got real chilly – luckily we packed our blanket. Chilled next to the dam with beer and a yum coffee for me although I didn’t want to drink too much – it’s really fine walking to the ablution block, but not always in the middle of the night.
Nice for a day trip or weekend. Campsites are very close to each other. Braais are low uncomfortable unless you sit and braai. Could do with better shower heads and better water pressure in showers, but water was nice and warm. Would've been nice to have a place to do the dishes closer to our campsite at ablutions near us instead of having to make use of the only basin on site at ablutions further up the road. With a little upkeep the place could easily go back to what is was in its hayday.
The water is great. Just a lot of clean up needs to be done. Bins are overflowing reception staff is not the friendliest and very small stands. All and all not seing me again.
Very nice Fishing dam its still part of roodeplaat dam bathrooms are neat and tidy friendly people but the prices are n bit offRooms: 5/5
I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was neat and clean. Will definitely come again. We are also doing some specimen carp fishing, seems like they are loving the banana flavours here. No tuck shop here but they do sell wood.
This resort needs some serious maintenance. The entrance gate is broken so there is a man using traffic cones as a make shift gate. The pool is in a serious need of a makeover and the decking needs attention too. We stayed in in a fishing cabin and there were loose decking boards and the step was also loose which represents a trip hazard. The ablution blocks were clean but again needs maintenance. The toilet seats are worn and loose. Some toilet doors can't lock. One of the urinals is cracked and leaking the list go on. It is a real shame because the resort has got so much potential and the location is ideal for a quick fishing weekend.
