Very bad holiday experience!!!! My husband and I had not taken a vacation for the last few years. As such we decided to head to Port Elizabeth and stay at the Isango Gate Boutique hotel for a week to have a good rest. Based on the Isango Gate Boutique Hotel advertisement it seemed to be an amazing place to stay and relax which we really looked forward to. However, to our disappointment when we arrived and approached the building we noticed that the outer building definitely did not resemble the beautiful photos we had seen online. The place is tired and in dire need of maintenance and could do with a good paint and fixing of the cracked walls. On the inside of the building the walls are damp, there is peeling paint, dirty stained carpets and rusty fixtures. We also encountered a broken window in the room we slept in which we thankfully managed to close so no mosquitos could enter. 1. Upon check in we encountered the first issue: the receptionist advised that the TV in the room we were meant to stay in had a technical issue and asked if we would be fine with it since a technician would come over the next day to fix it. When we entered the room it was smelling and we were told that the carpet was only deep cleaned a day before even though we had asked a week before check in to ensure that the carpet is deep cleaned before we arrive. 2. The bottled water we received had a bad taste, as if it had stood in the sun all day. 3. The staff is unprofessional and not trained. We made use of the Do Not Disturb sign on the door and on two occasions we were interrupted. On the one occasion we were in the shower and had to shout from the shower that we could not attend to the door and that no staff member should enter as we were busy. On the second occasion we placed the Do Not Disturb sign on the door and decided to quickly head down for breakfast and then return to the room. When we returned we found room service cleaning the room even though we had a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. 4. There is a student accommodation building right opposite the Isango Gate Boutique hotel. The students are loud, shouting and partying from early morning till late at night. We were woken up around 7.30am in the morning with loud music. When I called reception to ask where the loud music was coming from so early in the morning she advised that it was coming from the student accommodation. She also advised this was an issue they were facing and when they ask the students to turn down their music they do not listen. 5. We were also looking forward to spending time in the beautiful pool we had seen in online in the hotel advertisement. Again to our disappointment the pool was dirty and we ended up not using it. After encountering all these issues my husband sent management an official email which was ignored. The operations manager who was onsite when receiving the email did not seem to be bothered about our complaint and did not respond to our complaints or apologize. We then asked reception to please ask management to get back to us regarding our complaints and to date we are still waiting for a response. We decided to cut our stay short and head home. What a bad experience, I will never return again!!! This is not a boutique hotel and not worthy to be rated as a 4 star hotel!!!
Went for a spa with my Fiance and the service was excellent. Friendly staff. Bongie gave me a phenominal massage, best I've ever had. Well done Team Isango. Definitely going back for moreService: 5/5
The service received was very poor. The staff specifically suggested that our appointment would be better in the afternoon because of a soak-off and a concern should anyone's treatment is after us. We arrived early, the staff member had clear issues with having to soak off tips because of the time it will take which confused us because it's why we changed to the 13:00 slot. The mani/pedi being the most expensive part of the treatment was what we had the most issue with. The price paid is not worth what was received. MANI/PEDI 1: * Had to move around between rooms mainly because the nail tech was in a rush and it was just simpler than the process. * Both hands and feet are done well. Although I was surprised My bright red Pedi. In natural lighting turned out to be a neon orange. So far from " I want my nails to be the same red but I don't mind different shades". MANI/PEDI 2 The dreaded soak-off: * No scrub took place. * The gel was put on in a rush and baked without cleaning up the cuticles. * After 3 coatings there are still holes in the finished mani. The only thing that saved it was the color and the fact that the nails were already shaped from the previous set. We understood that it will take time as mentioned before it's the reason behind the later appointment. The soak-off went well. But everyone has been rushed since starting the nails segment. So we just trying to keep calm and make the most out of the "spa day". Although in my mind I'm wondering since everyone clearly had somewhere to be why even offer a 9 pm slot when making the bookings? Personally, I wish they had said that they are fully booked because non of the staff wanted to be there and showed in their work. We could've gone to our normal nail techs and done a seated massage and received better service. This was not a good experience. By far my worst spa day. The massages were done well. My bright orange toes are not happy with the service nor are the messy patchy lavender manicure. For the next clients' experience. Do not accept bookings when staff clearly has other plans for that day. Do your nails in a room with natural light or natural light bulbs. The nail tech should be able to see that it's not red, it's orange by the second toe and fixes it.
Bongi and Siyo were amazing, the treatment was sabotaged by the 2 ladies who were gossiping and laughing out loud right outside our treatment room, hybo guys so unprofessional!
HEALTH & SAFETY RISK! NO GO ZONE! Booked a workshop and 2 rooms at Isango Gate in November 2022. Dreadful, I had to evacuate all the participants and move the training. The entire hotel is infested with mould everywhere. Linen was stained, the cupboards had an awful smell, the sliding balcony door could not open. The bathroom smelled horridle, toilet seat stained. Clearly hygeine not on top of their list. The carpets stained and patched. The furniture is rotting. The breakfast was non-existent. Milk made in 2 coffees was sour as well as the spreadable butter. The dessert served at lunch was burnt. The individual attending to the front desk was unprofessional and certainly not trained. There was one blow dryer shares by all the rooms, that blew up on us. The manager, Linda, never found the need to apologise nor address these issues. I'm now having to beg and plead for a refund.
Had a wonderful stay at this place. Friendly staff , room nice and tidy and very modern. Food was great, the spa was an absolute blissful experience. Only the carpets needs to be replaced other than that it was an awesome stay. Thank you to the staff who made our first anniversary memorable
Definitely not 5 star; I can't even rate it one star. Terrible damp and just not very responsive management to complaints.Rooms: 1/5
The hotel needs maintenance and furniture replaced. The bedding was stained and the pillows smelled of sweat. The carpets are badly stained and needs to be replaced as well. The tiles in the shower had water marks all over it. There was a function on my stay and it was noisy and unpleasant. The staff are friendly and tried their best. The overall experience was so terrible I left at 5 o'clock the next morning just to get out of there.
Looks good on the outside but on the inside it's very old and poorly maintained.Rooms: 1/5
I don't know why it's called a 5 star Hotel there is nothing 5 star about it The staff is unfriendly and no customer service, it was raining when we left and the staff didn't even offer us an umbrella. Their breakfast is extremely disappointing. We booked for 2 yet towels were only for 1 person. When you call reception the phone doesn't go through. Interior and furnishing is outdated. Only thing I can say was good is the spacious room and bathroom.
