Kokstad Specialist Centre

This review is for the Kokstad Specialist Centre not the Kokstad Medical Centre. I have only experienced compassion and professionalism at the Kokstad Medical Centre from doctors and the administrative staff. Unfortunately the Kokstad Specialist Centre is the complete opposite and the Kokstad Specialist Centre does not have a business profile on Google to review them on. I took my mum to see Dr Ndlovu for a follow up appointment. Dr Ndlovu is one the opthamologist at the Kokstad Specialist Centre. We made the appointment on 23 November to see the doctor again on 20 December. The establishment is run down and it could do with maintenance. We arrived at Dr Ndlovu's office at around 10:00am on 20 December. When we arrived we had to write our names on a piece of paper and we were number 22 on the list. When I asked the receptionist what time we could expect to be served she said she does not know as the doctor was consulting with the patient that was number 9 on the list. After waiting for 45 minutes in a tiny room with 20 other people I told the receptionist that we had other errands to run in town and requested her to call us when we closer in the queue because it was absolutely unreasonable to expect us to wait all day to be served. She asked us to pay R850 in cash because the card machine was not working, luckily I had R900 cash and the receptionist said that we would receive the R50 change from Dr Ndlovu during the consultation. The receptionist then said that she cannot call us for our consultation, I told her that it was unreasonable to expect paying clients to sit all day waiting to be served. They should have a system like any doctors office where they book clients for specific time slots. I asked her to give me their telephone number and I will call them myself to see how far they have progressed in their 'roster'. I called them a few times to check and we returned to the doctors office at around 14:00. We finally saw the doctor at around 15:00. Once we left I told the receptionist that we did not receive the R50 change from the doctor and she told me that I had to wait as the doctor is seeing another patient. I proceeded to tell her that I do not have the luxury of time. The doctors office is a 1 hour drive from our home and I would not sit here for an unspecified amount of time and risk driving in the dark, I was very frustrated because we waited 5 hours to be served. An older gentleman that works for the establishment jumped to his feet and proceeded to shout at me and told me to watch my words. I did not take kindly to this threat I told him that I was not rude, I was simply airing my frustration, as a paying customer, on their poor and unprofessional service. They should consider this feedback and work towards providing better service. He threw my R50 change at me while continuing to shout at me. I was absolutely appalled at the service provided by the Kokstad Specialist Centre at Dr Ndlovu's office. They wasted our time, the staff was rude and a grown man threatened me for expressing my frustration. If your doctor at the Kokstad Medical Centre refers you to this establishment especially to Dr Ndlovu's office I would suggest you ask for a different specialist.
