Last time I was here I was with my niece and my sister - and I did go again and I enjoyed it so much - the staff were cool and very friendly... I love that when you enter a room the sound effects starts to play at first it was scary but I love it. Also there were kids when I was there - it's great to see children come to the museum and learn. I will add Photos of my favorite highlights.
The Museum has changed a lot since my last visit as a child but they still have the 3 legged chicken.

Oh wow! Immaculately maintained. Moved the history of Mandela. A little bit shy to mention yrs, I used one of those singer sewing machines. Staff polite and helpful. Very inexpensive and educational family outing. Wheelchair access and clean solutions. Well done! It's truly a great experience!
it was excellent, historic and educational. There is a section dedicated to India and Mahatma Gandhi. The museum has incredible displays, well thought of and well kept. Lots to see and loads to learn!! A definite must for any tourists visiting the area.
Always such a wonderful outing with the children. Great value for money at R22 for a family of 4 2nd child was free as he is under 4 years old Great variety exhibits. Some old, but bring in technology to make exhibits interactive and bring new information.
Well worth the R15 entrance fee!! Lots to seeVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Unimpressed. The "gift shop" is a shelf with cheap toys I could easily go buy at the china store. Would be better if one could buy things actually related to a museam. Dinosaur exhibit was such a let down. Was tiny and had some pretty basic facts wrong. Had very little available in terms of snacks and drinks. Disappointing.
Lovely place to go to. Amazing experience and very cheap entrance fee. Such a variety of animals and excellent taxidermy of the animals. It was a pleasure to come and view this museum.
The Natal Museum is a must visit in Pietermaritzburg. It offers visitors a chance to feel that sense of childlike amazement when one enters each exhibition room and themed area. The exhibits are high quality and cover a wide range of interests. Spend about an hour to two hours, or more here and enjoy feeding your mind with interesting facts, knowledge and visual wonders. Entrance fees are very cheap and there is a tiny vending machine providing sugary snacks, on the premises.
