Well worth the time spent. Almost skipped it but so glad we did not. Don't go during the winter as they migrate away then. Very informative and nice and easy enough to explore and learn by just reading the boards. Enjoyed it!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Great place for bird viewing. Entrance fee needed. Can be closed in winter due to migration. Some dirt road travel if coming from north.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Our second visit after almost 11 years did not disappoint us this time either. You can get very close to the animals at about 5m and above all at eye level. Since we were almost alone on all of our visits 1 x 2012 and 2 x this year, we, as ambitious hobby photographers, had neither time pressure nor space problems to get to our photos. Visiting the gannet colony is a must when on the west coast.
Something out of the ordinary. A must if you are a birdwatcher. Very informative. An unexpected gem. You get fairly close to the gannets at the hide. Just check if it is breeding season since most of the birds dissappear in winter. In spring and summer the island is packed with birds. Gannets, seagulls and even some jackass penguins. Entrance is R50 per person.
A beautiful, unique part of South Africa that is worth visiting if you are close to Lambert's Bay. The visit won't take you longer than an hour. The area is well maintained and the large amounts of birds on the island is a spectacle to appreciate.
Unfortunately not open. Would have been nice to have info on construction before we left our accommodation. Luckily restaurant across street made up for disappointed.Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedYes
You get to get really close to a sea bird colony. Really fascinating. There is also a very small museum. However the exhibition centre was disappointing. The facilities need some repair. The entrance fee is very cheap for what you get and its worth a visit.
Bucketlist activity if you are around lamberts bayVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Bird island occupies a small corner of Lambert's Bay and home to the Cape Gannet. The noise from the birds is deafening as is the stench which is strong at best. There is a viewing platform in the middle which is generally unmanned which you can see the birds up close. There are a few others floating about and nice to see the ducks playing in the water. The small enclosure has bird skeletons. A short visit is worth it if in area but I would not travel for it.
