Excellent, safe and secluded venue for mountain biking or hiking, with different routes covering shorter or longer distances, up to about 20km. My favourite retreat for me time. There are mild elevations, but no hectic climbing. It is usually quiet and there is a wide array of wildlife to be seen from the trails. Be sure to have a charged phone battery, take water and spare tubes, as you do get quite remote. Emergency numbers can be noted at the parking area when you arrive.
Why is this nature reserve still closed? The security guard at the gate said it was due to COVID-19 protocols... Obviously that's not the issue. Please open our nature reserve back up.
Beautiful, tranquil and free to enter i love coming here to ride my bike with friends and family! Very safe and secure. Occasionally treated to seeing some form of wildlife as well
Come and ride with the zebras, eland, springboks and lots of birds. Easy ride and fun to do on a gravel grinder or mtb. Entry is free just bring s valid id to sign in at the gate.
One of the few places in tbe country where you csn do a "game drive" on your bicycle...and for free too! Eland, zebra, springbok and more to view...sometimes a little closer than may be comfortable. A few routes to choose from varying from 7km to 20km on relatively flat terrain through fynbos. Safer than training on-road as there are no cars. There is also a Gordon's bird hide to view the feathered.species from. Ample safe parking and it is possible to get an annual permit to speed up access via manned security gate control points.
Koeberg has a very well maintained nature reserve open to the public. One needs to present your ID at the security gate and park at the visitors parking just outside the power station gate. There is a 47 km trail perfect for hiking or mountain biking with game roaming such as Eland and Zebras. There is also bird watching with a number of hides along the trail and dams. There was a fire about 1 year ago and they vegetation is recovering.
Great mountain bike trail for any novice. Cool breeze from Blouberg beach keeps not only the reactor at a great cool temperature. Many routes to take with distance at each path choices. Look out for game. My ride: Raleigh vapor frs 29inch
Koeberg is a fantastic, free place to take the children for a completely safe you are required to sign in with ID at the gate walk or bike ride. The terrain is relatively flat too, so good for kids. There aren't too many animals - only some buck, zebras and tortoises.
Once a year there's an opportunity to drive around this beautiful reserve and dunes. Ordinarily it's open to hikers and bikers only.
This is not accurate as Koeberg Reserve...it is at closeby Silverstroomstrand. The walk this morning was shorter than the long one yesterday when we reached the northern boundry with the beautifull plants, rocks & view on Table mountain some 50 km's away. The cool breeze from thin on-shore mist, helped us along and we picked up quite a lot little flat stones for our garden back home at the retirement village. The strange cool weather for CT this time of year, is very pleasant for us elders, camping in our motorhome. SSStrand is becomming a regular camping site , 4 times a year, because it is close to us, at the sea, cheap, VERY quiet during the week 3rd time here over past 4 years...always alone in the camp, and impressive security with strict rules. And do not forget the interesting stuff washed out on the beach! Thanks to City of CT for keeping these fasilities affordable for us.
