Lion's Head OT

About

Hiking and Occupational therapy sessions on Lion's head. Hiking and therapy intertwined - to enable, to enhance and to enrich while finding your own power.

Description

I provide free therapy sessions twice a week while hiking up Lion's Head. The sessions consist of observations and screening and formulating practical solutions to positively influence your life in all areas of activity - that is, at your work, your home life, your "me time"; your play time and wherever you find expression through doing.

Hiking can be relaxing, it can be challenging, it can be energising, it can be thrilling and it can also be taxing - it is all of these and more. it is much like life, with all its ups and downs.

Occupational therapy* has the potential to enable people to do what they need to do and what they want to do. It also can enhance people's life experiences to be more richer and more meaningful. It is a space in which people find power in themselves to change their lives for the better.

*OT is the scientific application of the use of occupation or "everyday doing" to positively impact health and wellbeing

My favourite Hike in Cape Town by far. It's the perfect combination of challenging with great views and you can do it quickly enough to get a hike in before work in the morning. Grab a light snack and indulge once you get to the top. Just note that there are 2 routes and if you decide to take the challenging one you should really be careful. If hiking with kids or older people rather take the recommended route
Beautiful sunrise trek along the Cape Town mountain range. The path itself is not that easy nor difficult but what I’d say is prepare yourself for a strenuous trek, especially at the last section and if you’re not hiked a lot. The views up there are magnificent and a great reward for your hard work! Highly recommended.
It's such a lovely walk/hike. Be sure to bring water and sunscreen as there is literally no shade! It will take the average couch-potatoe approximately 75 Minutes to the top. The view is stunning starting from the first step up to the top.
A hiking trail for any beginner wanting to take it a little further. Views are spectacular from the top. In summer go for an early morning hike for a perfect sunrise experience before the sun gets too hot.
It's a challenging hike, especially for beginners, like myself. If you are into climbing rocks this one is for you. I'd advice you start your hike early,to avoid human traffic along the trail. The views are absolutely amazing.
Although this is an easy hike for fit people, those who are starting a fitness journey may find it challenging. The paths are also way too busy for my liking, but you can get beautiful scenery. Start early in summer.
A definite most-do if you’re even in Cape Town. 1-2 hours hike up, 2.5km distance one way. Amazing 360-degree view of Cape Town , Table Mountain and the surrounding areas, nice and clean trail, suitable for kids may need some help in few places and lots of nice flora along the route. As usual, lots of traffic on weekends so come early to beat the crowd.
Fun steep climb with ladders and chains to the top. Great 360 views from above! Start early in the morning 5 - 8am because the sun will turn you into bacon if you start later than 10am. Alternatively start later in the afternoon 3pm in summer as it stays bright till late. There is no entrance fee. There is also lots of traffic going up the hill during peak season and parking is extremely difficult to find. So you'll likely start your hike from your car. The hike is extremely popular so there are many people at all times. You won't get lost. The climb was too crowded for me. Dog-friendliness: Lots of people bring their dogs to hike with them
Steep climb in the beginning but not to bad. Very easy compared to table mountain. Did the sunset and full moon hike and it was beautiful. Just take a jacket with, and a good flashlight when doing the full moon hike. There were a lot of people doing the full moon hike so it was safe.
Top area for hiking or just to chill and enjoy the day. Always very busy and not easy to find parking. If you dnt have time it's not advisable to visit here and it's very relaxing to just enjoy the scenery. Will be back.
