OT uses the medium of play, which is a child's primary occupation to help improve their visual perceptual, physical and motor skills and enhance their self-esteem.
OT is aimed at any child who is not achieving their full potential at school or at home.
There does not have to be a major learning difficulty for a referral to OT to be made and therapy may be recommended to address behavioural, concentration or social difficulties.
Therapy sessions are fun and designed to motivate the children to engage in the therapy process, which has a positive effect on their progress.
During therapy sessions we may swing on swings or climb over obstacle courses to improve core strength and balance as well as work on sensory modulation and play with puzzles and other games to improve cognitive or perceptual skills.
Early intervention with OT is best. They often respond quicker to therapy the younger they are, as their brains are still developing.
Tamar has a desire to keep learning and discovering new ideas. Her passion is working with a broad range of children from the little ones with sensory and behavioural difficulties to older children with academic and concentration difficulties.
