Loaves On Long

They have some very tasty sandwiches, and great coffee. But would have really loved a breakfast. Other than that the location is quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed sitting on the patio with my coffee watching the world go slowly by.

Decided to start my morning on the right foot with a breakfast at Loaves by Madame Baker. The restaurant is situated in a lovely and somewhat quiet part of Salt River which is rare to come by these days. The service was average as I wasn’t greeted when I walked into the premises nor offered a menu. I asked for one and then left to find my own seat. I was one of 3 customers in the store and finally was attended to by one of the staff he was not wearing a uniform so I assumed he was a trainee I ordered the eggs Benedict and a glass of water. As I’m writing this review. I have yet to receive said water and the eggs Benedict was also average. A bit overdone as there wasn’t much of a runny yolk but I guess we can leave that down to personal preference. Overall for the quality of food and the price. I would rate this place 2/5 stars. Hopefully if I’m ever in the area again. Things will have improved.

Loaves in Long it's a cute almost hidden spot in heart of Long Street. You can find this most amazing breads and sandwiches also at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market on Saturday mornings. The coffee shop is a small place with a great smell of fresh bread and smiles. The service is really good and expect fresh ingredients and mouth watering flavours. The price is fair for a long street spot. My recommendation will be for the Bresaola sandwich and the fresh croissant in the mornings with a big cup of coffee. If you love freshly baked goods you're in for a treat here. On the day we visited half the staff didn't arrive and the food was super slow but very much worth the wait. Ciska the owner is amazing and definitely has a hands on approach. I tried the French toast with a citrus syrup and it was divine.

I think the Madame who makes the bread and rolls was who I met yesterday. Open plan style counters to see what she was making and it seemed like brown rolls or paninis. Wanted to get seed loaf for my friend as recommended, but it was long sold out and popular. Took a sourdough bread and was a bit pricey at R40 but it's ok for once in a while.

Menu needs to be updated but everything else was great. Food was fresh, service was great.Food: 4/5

Very nice sandwiches! I tried the chicken mayo and bresaola I'm greedy like that. I can't choose which one is my favourite. These are not your grandmother's sandwiches. You have a variety of breads to choose from too.

Can't not stop raving about this quaint little spot. The baker/owner is always on site and so entertaining to chat to. We did a croissant making class on a Saturday and learnt so much. The aroma of freshly-baked ciabatta and croissants fill the air as you enter. The coffee is also top notch!

Warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere from management and staff as you walk through the door. Great cappuccino and delicious artisan breads made with nuts, seeds and an array of healthy and tasty ingredients. Overall a lovely spot to relax and enjoy being with special friends. Highly recommended

Lovely local bakery that serves baked goods, pies, sandwiches and breads. Also serves a good coffee with beans from our favourite roastery, Boston Coffee in Bellville. The palmiers were so good that I bought 3 for taking home. Lovely friendly service with outside terrace. A useful eatery in the middle of Salt River.
