The LOVE SANDWICHES initiative aims to provide sandwiches for children who go to school hungry, through a network of loving sandwich makers :)
The Love Sandwich project was started by Kirsti Adshade in 2012. The project started with her encouraging the parents at her school to send an extra sandwich to school on a Tuesday morning. The concept grew to include several other play schools and they would all deliver the sandwiches to Settlers Primary School every Tuesday. The project has expanded so that anyone and everyone can make sandwiches and they are delivered by Walmer Angel Projects to 17 creches and Walmer Lower Primary in the Walmer Township. In addition to the schools involved, there are several individuals making sandwiches on a regular basis as well as a big weekly sandwich contribution from Love Story.

And if your child's school is not yet involved in a Love Sandwich type project, advocate with the school leaders to join in the Love Sandwich team!
Love Sandwiches days are on Tuesday and Thursday (you choose which day suits you best). Individuals, groups and schools commit to making sandwiches to be dropped off on either of those days. Most people have committed weekly but we are open to every second week, monthly or once off commitments too! Every Sandwich counts!!!
Sandwich Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Drop off point: Bocadillo's, 6th Avenue Walmer -
Drop off time: Between 7.30am and 9.30am
Toppings: Peanut butter or jam
Wrapping: For INDIVIDUAL SANDWICHES, place the sandwich in a sandwich packet/foil and for those making LOAVES, simply put the sandwiches back into the bread bags :)
