Built in 1852 and described at the time as "the best built family house in the city", Macrorie house is the only museum in Pietermaritzburg open to the public, that is dedicated to the early to mid- Victorian era. It is furnished throughout in Victorian style and boasts features such a a private chapel, school room,a beautifull dolls house and touch room for children to enjoy, kitchen, living and entertainment areas. This museum offers the visitor a taste of an era long forgotten.
