Description

A diamond in the rough – Martins was established by Flemino Martins in 1970, formerly known as “Steurhof café”, a local Convenience store. The business successor, John Martins followed in his father’s footsteps. He decided to continue his father’s legacy by opening a bakery division in 1983. John left his day job as manager of the Bank of Lisbon to follow his passion and now works with his father and his wife Teresa Martins.

The European-style bakery brings to mind a contemporary deli and coffee shop that is filled with the fresh aroma of baked goods to entice the senses. Martins does was it does best-bakes non-commercial, home made breads with no preservatives and using traditional techniques such as their Sourdough.

I cannot be in the area and not pop into Martin's. They have the best, most delicious food and MY favourite' - These Florentines!! Scrumptious, and healthier than the traditional Florentines.
This place is lovely and quaint. The Cafe is great, with many tasty food options. Be aware of trading hours as they close quite early. Not exactly the biggest fan of being forced to walk through the grocer store in order to pay your bill. I understand the concept of trying to get people to buy things, but it's annoying.
Bought a few takeaway items. Staff were friendly but the baked goods were average. The pie pastry was crispy.. Filling was bland and meat was dry and overcooked. Cocktail sausage rolls were okay, sure it would have been better if it was warm.
Place very clean, staff friendly, food always wonderful, can buy breads etc here too, steak pies are fantastic
It was joyful sight to enter a cafe displaying so much pastries in the early hour. We had a good and fast service at the terrace. It is an airy place to hang out & have our delicious morning breakfast.
Great shop for diabetics! Fantastic bakery with lots of gluten free options too. Wish I'd discovered it sooner. Great job guys! Had the most fantastic breakfast for R50 and amazing Quartado..so good I had 2!!
I was pleasantly surprised by the service I got. I needed some meals for volunteers at 430. When I phoned they said their kitchen closed at 330 but they would make ahead and keep them warm for me. I arrived and the staff were friendly and helpful. They made me lovely coffee too. The meals were delicious. I can highly recommend the Banting burger. It was packed with flavour, lovely avo, cheese, salad and all sorts. It was an extremely pleasant experience and I would highly recommend it!

I visited martins today with my mother and was baffled by the service. I am a trained barista and the way they make their coffee is both unhygienic, and surprising if i were to find out that they were trained. The food took 40 minutes to arrive and smelt like it was made in the same pot as all of there menu items. They claimed that their orange juice was 100% Orange, and then they delivered what seemed to be juice from a juice box. With all of this they charged me R40 for the orange juice and R100 for the eggs benedict that i mentioned before. I would rather go to a mcdonald’s that charges the same.
Martins Deli and Cafe is one of the best and most popular establishments in Cape Town for good reason. For a small shop there is a wide assortment of sweet and savoury treats. A personal favourite is the mini lemon meringue tart. There is also a sit down cafe with a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. Martins is also popular for its banting and gluten-free options.
