Mez reopens as Mez Karoo Kitchen! Our emphasis will remain on Mediterranean cuisine but we will play withh flavours from other parts of the world as well! the menu will change weekly and will be evident on the board on the outside of Mez, on the road.

Mez Karoo Kitchen is a jewel of a garden setting in Barrydale offering delicious wine and authentic Mediterranean food at competitive prices. Convivial, sharing small plates and generous large plates of glorious flavors. We loved our evening. Vegetarian options: Vegetarians are well catered for.

My husband and I had the most delightful experience tinight at the Mez Karoo Kitchen. Being an accomplished cook myself, I absolutely love it when other people's dishes just surpasses mine! The dishes were all seasonal and freshly made. I couldn't fault any of the dishes. The host/owner is attentive and available. She was serving as the waiter. We sat in front of a cozy fire, in the same space that the two ladies cooked the food. Great ambience. Exceptional service. Honest, tasty, multilayered food. Thanks. It was a great experience!
I often dream that I could make food so wonderful that it would burrow deep into ancient relationships between ingredients intermingled over thousands of years. I can't, and neither can most restaurants the world over. But tonight at Mez Karoo Kitchen I tasted Lamb Kleftiko which fluted haunting melodies of shepherds before the time of Christ, grazing their sundrenched flocks on the tiny tart leaves of ancient herbs, under skies of lemon and pumpkin pink, while storms brewed and lightning flickered in a soaring swirl of sky.
What a find in quaint little Barrydale! Mez offers a Mediterranean inspired menu that changes daily. A mother and son team run a tight ship, with exceptional service and world quality service set in a rustic chic space with good energy and happy vibes. A must visit.
Lovely decor, interesting dishes, delicious food and flavours. Exceptional. Run by mother and son, with passion and love, which can be tasted in each dish served. Personal friendly service, great ambiance. The chocolate pot dessert was out of this world! We'll definately come back to Barrydale, specifically for this restaurant. Simply wonderful. What a find.
Popped by for dinner at Mez on the recommendation of some locals and what a gastronomic delight. Everything from the welcome at the door by Kyle, to the beautiful decor, and down to every delicious morsel was like being in another time and place. I really appreciated the thought and art behind the space and food. Michelle and her team have crafted a gem in the Karoo where as soon as you step into the restaurant you feel a merging of all the places that inspire the dishes - Mediterannean, Middle Eastern, Mexican, Italian and not forgetting the local Cape Malay traditions. Not a fan of courgettes so decided to be adventurous and try the fritters. Excellent and perfect balance of the cheese and courgette, a bonus that it was Gluten Free. Tried the Malay Curry and the lamb was cooked perfectly, paired with home-made chutney. Whilst the veggies were meant to be a side, they were flavoured just right to star on their own. I have been on many travels outside SA and only one other dining experience in India rivals the treat that was Mez. Definitely heading back for more! A must on your visit to or stop through the Klein Karoo.
A culinary gem in Barrydale! Such a warm and inviting space with a romantic atmosphere. The food is delicious with either shared tapas plates or larger portions available. A must visit should you ever be in this darling town!
An exquisite restaurant in a wonderful setting. Eclectic and sumptuous menu. Freshly cooked and expertly explained by the owners and other waiting staff. Great reasonably extensive wine list. A real gem.
