A place of safety for the weary and afflicted which includes orphaned and abandoned children, terminally ill and destitute adults and the elderly.
Nazareth House Johannesburg
‘The needle in the haystack’, ‘An Oasis in the desert’, ‘A refuge in the midst of chaos and confusion’ – that is exactly what Nazareth House Johannesburg is! Within the walls of this well-established campus, set in beautiful landscaped gardens, lies a place of safety for the weary and afflicted which includes orphaned and abandoned children, terminally ill and destitute adults and the elderly.
We offer the elderly a peaceful retirement environment with all amenities, close proximity to medical services, entertainment and major shopping centres. We provide a loving and healthy home to our children who thrive and enjoy a well-balanced and happy life. The Special Care Centre/ Hospice provides medical treatment to individuals infected with HIV and AIDS and other life threatening conditions. We reach out to the poor and homeless in the surrounding areas with food, clothing and blankets, and emotional support.
About Us
At Nazareth House Johannesburg, we strive to uphold the Core Values of our foundress, Victoire Larmenier, in all that we do.
The Sisters and staff care for 30 HIV+ orphans in our Children's Home, and we have 100 retired men and women, including frail aged, in Aged Care. Most of the residents of Nazareth House can no longer adequately care for themselves or be maintained by the community.
We also run a clinic for over three thousand patients from the local communityand have a Hospice for 22 adult, terminally ill Aids/TB patients.
Through our Outreach programme we interact with the community around us through an art clinic and community visits and support.
Organisation
We have a Management Committee and employ a team of full-time managers to care for the medical, financial and technical well-being of the home. The Committee is constituted according to the requirements of the Department of Social Development and consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and members who carry appropriate portfolios.
As a welfare organisation, we are subject to regular inspections and evaluations by the National and Provincial Departments of Health and Social Development (it has been described by both Departments as “a model House”).
Nazareth House is registered as a Section 18A organisation
We, the Sisters of Nazareth, aim to share the love of God through our ministries of care and education and our openness to respond to the needs of the times.
